Feeding South Florida is Hiring a Retail Store Donation Manager (RSDM) Near Pembroke, FL

POSITION SUMMARY
The primary objective of the Retail Store Donation Manager (RSDM) is to formulate and execute food acquisition strategies to meet our mission objectives. This position supervises two Retail Store Donation Coordinators serving our program demands, taking into consideration the policies and guidelines of FSF, Feeding America, Dept. of Health, FDACS, USDA, and FDA. The RSDM will establish relationships, develop, and implement our procurement plan, sourcing from Retail, Wholesale, Donated, and Purchased donors and vendors. The RSDM works closely with our Agricultural Sourcing Manager, Allocation Manager, and other departments to ensure FSF maintains an inventory of program-appropriate products for distribution to agencies and programs. The RSDM also establishes and analyzes metrics for measuring team success. In addition to food sourcing, the RSDM will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing consumable supplies for our food sorting operation. While this position ideally has a supply chain background, it also involves customer service experience with the ability to work with a diverse community toward our mission of ending hunger in South Florida.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Strategy

  • Create and maintain a database of retail and wholesale contacts that includes products, volume, and any additional information necessary to maintain these relationships.
  • Develop and maintain strong communications with retail partner store management to grow food donations.
  • Hire, train, and manage Retail Store Donation Coordinators, establish goals, and hold team members accountable.
  • Maintain weekly and monthly reports on pounds and products received by donor, vendor, item category, and other variables as required to evaluate department performance and address inter-departmental inquiries.
  • Monitor and evaluate the Feeding America websites for special food offerings through the Grocery Purchasing Program and Choice System.
  • Forecast and procure ongoing shelf-stable food for our food sorting and program initiatives.
  • Utilize Feeding America toolkits and Store Donation Program resources.
  • Execute Feeding America’s Retail Recovery Playbook.
  • Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures are written, accurate, and executed.

Food Acquisition

  • Expand the acquisition of retail/wholesale shelf-stable and perishable food in accordance with Feeding America’s Food 2 Encourage and Healthy Eating Research.
  • Supervise the management of MealConnect and Extra Helpings food recovery platforms.
  • Collaborate with Agency Relations, Transportation, and Allocation to connect our partner agencies with donor stores for our Retail Direct Drop and Store Donation Program.
  • Maintain subscription to FDA’s Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety Alerts and inform the Director of the Food Supply Chain of any concerns that may affect our food supply chain.
  • Plan and manage as assigned the food acquisition budget to ensure responsible control over utilization of resources.
  • Coordinate with Transportation and Operations the pickup and receiving of all donated retail/wholesale and purchased food.
  • Enter donation and purchase orders as required.
  • Ensure timely documentation and reports to donors on the outcomes of their donation programs.
  • Conduct routine analysis of sourcing status and retail/wholesale markets.

Relationship Management and Donor Cultivation

  • Manage the development and retention of existing retail/wholesale donors with the goal of receiving more pounds per donation and more regular contributions.
  • Maintain a calendar schedule of visits to stores, distribution centers, and importers, making new and maintaining existing food industry partnerships.
  • Work with Development and Community Engagement to recognize major donor support.
  • Provide receipt information to retail/wholesale donors as requested.
  • Perform research on prospective food donors and actively solicit food donations.
  • Represent the FSF with appropriate food and business-related organizations and committees.
  • Produce accurate and timely reports as required by the executive team, Feeding America, the State of Florida, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and donors.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • A college degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of food/grocery industry experience in sales/marketing and sourcing shelf-stable and perishable food.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing, developing, motivating, and coaching high-performing teams.
  • Existing knowledge of food retail/wholesale vendors and understanding of food industry partnerships and growing trends.
  • Knowledge of supply chain, food systems, brokering, retailing, wholesaling, and tertiary markets.
  • Success in relationship building and management.
  • Experience in establishing and executing sound business practices and metrics including planning and analysis.
  • Ability to work as part of a high-performance team, meet deadlines, and be a strong team player.
  • Must be friendly, and outgoing, have a positive attitude, and be comfortable speaking with people in public and over the telephone.
  • Proven track record of successfully working in highly collaborative organizational environments.
  • Experience in demand forecasting and purchasing.
  • Fantastic customer service and high expectations for quality.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment.
  • Maintains a professional image.
  • ServSafe® training or the willingness to obtain certification. HAACP and AIB experience is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Hours of Operation: Although organization hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., this management position will work closer to 50-60 hours per week, especially during peak times such as holiday seasons, growing seasons, and disaster response. After-hours business work is required occasionally throughout the year.
  • Environment: This position works on the road visiting retailers and wholesalers as well as in a typical office setting. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing, and/or bending; listening, talking, and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use. Occasional work will occur in the warehouse or outside in fields and warehouses in inclement weather. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Disaster Operations: In instances of a federal, state, or locally declared emergency, FSF is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.
  • Travel: FSF serves four counties so there is often same-day travel between the counties, using a personal vehicle, and occasional out-of-town travel for meetings, conferences, or special events. FSF offers reimbursable travel costs for covered expenses.
  • OSHA Standards: Lifting requirements are 50 pounds and when lifting loads heavier than 50 pounds, use two or more people to lift the load.
