Job Title: Media Specialist

Job Summary:

The Media Specialist will support the U.S. Navy in Keyport, Washington. This role involves capturing studio portraits, events, and artistic images using DSLR camera systems, while also editing and enhancing photographs with Adobe Creative Suite.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Capturing studio and environmental portraits, as well as events, using industry-standard DSLR camera systems and a combination of available light, strobe lighting, and portable strobes with power packs and reflectors
  • Editing and enhancing photographs using Adobe Creative Suite software, ensuring images are appropriately cropped, edited, and captioned according to DoD/Navy/AP style guidelines
  • Writing compelling captions to support images based on information provided by subject matter experts (SME)
  • Providing photography support for approximately 300-400 distinct events per year, delivering images suitable for internal and external communication products, including print materials, online publications, social media, and digital signage
  • Maintaining a current photography archive categorized for both public and non-public release
  • Ensuring all photographs are properly archived with metadata within two business days on the designated Code 103 digital library
  • Acknowledging photography requests within 24 hours/one business day and coordinate services within 72 hours of request
  • Delivering finished products within 72 hours/three business days after the event's completion
  • Ensuring all photography support work products are reviewed and approved by Code 103 prior to release

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in professional photography, with a strong portfolio showcasing studio portraits, event coverage, and artistic images
  • Proficiency in using DSLR camera systems, strobe lighting, and Adobe Creative Suite software (particularly Photoshop and Lightroom) for editing and retouching photographs
  • Attention to detail in editing, cropping, and captioning photographs to meet specific style and formatting guidelines
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand and convey complex technical ideas in image captions
  • Able to manage multiple photography assignments simultaneously and deliver high-quality results within specified timeframes
  • Comfortable working in both controlled and uncontrolled environments, adjusting lighting setups and techniques accordingly

Desired:

  • Bachelor's degree in Photography, Visual Arts, or a related field
  • Certification in Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent software applications

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Monday - Friday, normal working hours
  • Hybrid work structure; 60% onsite and 40% remote
  • Onsite location is Keyport, Washington
