Job Title: Interpreter

Job Summary:

Are you a skilled communicator passionate about inclusivity? Embrace a fulfilling role as an Interpreter, breaking down communication barriers between the D/deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing communities. Leverage your fluent ASL mastery to deliver precise interpretations for live and pre-recorded multimedia productions, both onsite and offsite. Collaborate with DOI Bureau/Office production staff, adapting seamlessly to potential changes in sign language interpretation requirements. This role is essential in enabling individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) to access the audio content of video and multimedia productions.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Using ASL signs and finger spelling to enable communication between the D/deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing communities
  • Delivering ASL interpretation for live and pre-recorded video or multimedia productions, ensuring accurate conveyance of inflection, emotion, and other audio information
  • Providing services both offsite and onsite
  • Collaborating with DOI Bureau/Office production staff for livestream events
  • Adapting to potential future changes in sign language interpretation requirements, including different ASL variations

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

    • Demonstrated proficient ethical and interpreting skills
    • Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
    • The capability to provide services both onsite and offsite

      Desired:

      • National Interpreter Certification (NIC)
      • Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)

        Work Setting and Environment:

        • Monday - Friday, part-time (a minimum of 50 hours per quarter)
        • Work is to be performed both remotely and onsite as needed
        • Some travel to onsite work may be required
