Federal Way Public Schools is Hiring an Elementary Paraeducator - Health and Safety Building Support Near Federal Way, WA

    This is a critical role to ensure that schools can operate safely and that all health and safety protocols are followed with regards to COVID-19. This position will assist in providing support related to COVID-19 operations at the school building. The employee in this role will help to administer rapid testing, monitor isolation rooms, assist with contact tracing, assist with general supervision, and greet caregivers and students with a warm and friendly tone upon arrival at the school.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.     • Escort students to and supervise the isolation room as needed, if students are present.
    • Perform and administer “rapid testing” in partnership with the school nurse and school nurse assistant.
    • Work in partnership with the COVID Lead “principal”, the school nurse, and or the school nurse assistant to close contact trace if a confirmed positive COVID-19 case was on campus.
    • Call families to coordinate pick up.
    • Check periodically to ensure health and safety supplies such as wipes, hand sanitizers, etc. and work with COVID site supervisor to replenish.
    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assist with social distancing precautions and reminders in the front office and around the building.
    • Assist in the heath room when/if needed.
    • Assist in stablishing and nurturing an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the district.
    • Help influence positive behavior and learning.
    • Supervise students (playground, dismissal, transitions) when/if needed.
    • Other duties are needed related to the general duties and responsibilities of a paraeducator.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience
    Per Federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Regulations, new hires must have:
    • High School Diploma or Equivalent,
    • And one of the following:
      • AA degree, OR
      • 48 College-Level Semester Credits, OR
      • 72 College-Level Quarter Credits, OR
      • Pass the state approved ParaPro Assessment
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    AA degree and/or Two years of college coursework
    Experience working with the public and working with school-age children
    Experience working in a child and or family health care setting
    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Criminal background clearance
    Valid Washington State driver’s license
    Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
    CPR/First Aid certificate or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
    Complete training for rapid testing protocols related to COVID-19 upon hire

    Best practices of customer services
    School operations

    Demonstrate basic knowledge of modern technology and willingness and ability to increase knowledge to proficiency
    Work independently and collaboratively with others fostering a team approach providing excellent customer service

    Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines.
    Develop and maintain positive relations with staff and service providers
    Follow written and verbal directions with minimal supervision
    Speak, read and follow written communications in English
    Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of strict confidentiality
    Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents/guardians, and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community
    Interact positively with students, parents and staff in a professional manner and demonstrate a commitment to students and their success
    Be flexible and willing to work at assigned school locations where needed.
    Possess the physical stamina and abilities to perform the responsibilities and duties of the job

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly sit, stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee is frequently required to squat, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee will occasionally be required to climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 lbs. and must frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 50 lbs. Any lifting over 50 lbs. should be done with two people or a mechanical device. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum force of 200 lbs.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor and outdoor conditions. This position works intermittently near a video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Position occasionally exposed to angry, frustrated, or aggressive individuals, typically in a school classroom environment. Potential exposure to infectious diseases.
    WORK SCHEDULE
    This position typically works, 6.0 hours a day, 9 months
