Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant - FASTMD 

Reports To VP of Operations

Supervises: None

Employment Type: Full Time

Overtime Status: Exempt X Nonexempt 

Location: Tampa, FL, and Odessa, FL

Physical Demand Level: Heavy

Job Summary: Performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a licensed Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, researching or checking for authorization or insurance, or collecting financial responsibilities for care. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, monitoring patients during the procedure, entering clinical information into the medical record, researching and obtaining imaging, completing patient-submitted or requested paperwork, and facilitating or managing the provider's business schedule. 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Record the patient's medical history, obtain vital statistics, and record in the medical record or enter into the medical record other information pertinent to the patient's status or care. 
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the room and workspace neat and clean.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Prepare and administer medications as appropriate and directed by the physician.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or other indicated physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies following appropriate guidelines as directed by the employer and/or OSHA.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance or other patient-requested forms.
  • Greet and log in patients arriving at the office or clinic.
  • Schedule appointments for patients.
  • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures under the direct guidance of the supervising provider.
  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission. 
  • Inventory and submit supply orders for medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment.
  • Restock procedure and exam rooms with supplies used during the clinic day.
  • Operate X-Ray, electrocardiogram (EKG), or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests with the assistance of the provider as indicated.
  • Change dressings on wounds.
  • Set up medical laboratory equipment.
  • Obtain imaging scans and reports to assist physicians in their clinical decision-making.

Other Job Responsibilities: As indicated by Office Manager.

Education/Certification/Licenses:

  • Medical Assistant Certification is preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements: As requested based upon position. 

Experience:

  • Medical office experience required - minimum of 1 year.
