FARMINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS is Hiring an Audio Visual Digital Media Technician - Systemwide Near Farmington, CT

Farmington Public Schools is seeking an Audio Visual Digital Media Technician!
General Description: Under the general supervision of Coordinator of Media Systems and evaluated by the Director of Technology, this position provides technical support to the daily operations of audio visual systems. A successful candidate will have experience working with a variety of digital and analog systems related to school settings. A successful candidate will have experience with production of theatrical and musical performance, including, but not limited to lighting and sound. The position requires a high level of independence, flexibility, and troubleshooting skills as well as a customer service oriented approach.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in media production or related field or equivalent combination of education and training, and two or more years of experience in a media environment.
  • Aptitude for and willingness to develop skills in teaching/training, good communication ability, and excellent writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people, to handle technical problems, and to follow complex plans and strategies in a high energy, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of circuitry, electricity, electronics, and the ability to read and follow schemata and technical manuals.
  • Thorough understanding of computer equipment and standard operating systems.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Certification by International Communications Industries Association, Inc. (ICIA)
  • AV control systems programming knowledge and experience
Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 (depending upon experience); full medical benefits, paid vacation time, 13 paid holidays, $30,000 life insurance

Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the Coordinator of Media Systems in the execution of media support tasks in the Farmington Public Schools, including but not limited to the following areas:
  • Video, both live broadcast and post-production.
  • Audio, both digital and analog live reinforcement and digital post-production including editing and sound design.
  • Theatrical and concert lighting design and execution, including conventional and intelligent lighting systems.
  • Multi-Media Production support for administration, faculty and students, including presentation support.
  • Maintenance and repair of the above systems.
  • Maintain an excellent relationship of cooperation between academic departments and the school system, including administrators, teachers and students.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with student interns.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Media Technology (AV) supports an extraordinary array of equipment and services. In addition to the general areas listed above, AV also provides support for the FHS Clock and bell schedule service, athletic scoreboard repair, FHS Radio management, Board of Education meeting audio set-up, High School and Middle School graduation tech, Auditorium and Gym PA, portable PA setup and operation, FHS Café Multimedia system, RF distribution system, and more. In cooperation with FHS Journalism classes, AV also produces the weekly 9:05 News, a live, high-production value news show that is broadcast every Friday. Coordination and assistance for news production services at other grade levels is also a responsibility of the position.

The successful candidate will exhibit familiarity with design and construction of AV systems, graphic design and execution, virtual set design and operation, comprehension of audio and video fundamentals, and theatrical lighting. These skills must always be executed within a positive framework of cooperation with the client base.
