Farmers Cooperative Society is Hiring a Diesel Mechanic Intern Near Center, IA

 
 
Overall Job Function:

The equipment mechanic intern assists the organization with uninterrupted service and efficiency by performing maintenance and repairs to company equipment in a timely manner. This is a paid internship where we offer you real world experience on some of the most diverse Agriculture equipment in the industry. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintains repair and maintenance records for all equipment.
  • Locks out equipment prior to working on it – utilizes and follows lock out / tag out procedures. 
  • Records details of repairs made, parts used and dates.
  • Disassembles and reassembles equipment for maintenance or repair.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and installs parts and / or replacement parts.
  • Tests equipment to ensure proper functioning, making any needed adjustments following repairs. 
  • Examines and listens to equipment, reads inspection reports and communicates with operators to locate and diagnose problems.
  • Reads work orders or descriptions of problems to determine repairs or modifications needed.
  • Inspects equipment to locate damage, defects or wear and recommends repair to prevent further damage.
  • Calculates bills according to record of repairs made, labor time and parts used.
  • Assists with repair scheduling; determines work priorities to service FCS locations.
  • Assists with setting up a preventative maintenance plan for trucks and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities: 

  • Ability to operate and understand mobile equipment.
  • Possess mechanical skills to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment, attention to unloading / loading and moving equipment.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations professionally.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a student in a public, private or accredited academic institution majoring in a diesel or heavy equipment program.

 Work Requirements: 

This position is based in a fast-paced agricultural setting and can be regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally may be loud. PPE will be provided and must be utilized according to safety standards. Typical working hours are based on customer and organizational demand; hours may be long, irregular and include weekends and holidays during peak season.

While performing job functions the employee will be required to talk and hear most of the time. The employee will spend frequent intervals moving and sitting, while also needing to reach, bend, twist, crawl, crouch, stoop or kneel. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 75 pounds frequently and maneuver on and off mobile equipment. The physicality of this job is high.
