    This position will start in the 2024-2025 School Year.
    Position Purpose: Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.
    Responsibilities:
    • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
    • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
    • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
    • Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observation
    • Determines goals, objectives and directions.
    • Monitors student’s progress in and outside special education room.
    • Maintains physical environment of the classroom.
    • Maintains contact with parents of students.
    • Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, work output and observation, based on determined goals, objectives and directions.
    • Prepares report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other surveys and forms.
    • Counsels individuals and groups of students with educational, occupational and personal needs.
    • Works with staff to coordinate goals and objectives.
    • Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of students
    • Consults with regular classroom teachers re: curriculum and test modifications and individual evaluation of student performance.
    • Assesses student achievement and ability with regard to eligibility for special service programs
    • Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education
    • North Dakota Teaching License or ability to obtain prior to start date with special education endorsement
    • High interest in serving students with complex needs (cognitive, communication, adaptive, behavioral, academic, social/emotional)
    • Understanding of child development stages and developmentally appropriate expectations
    • Strong communication skills both verbal and nonverbal
    • Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
    • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and creativity
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Knowledge of current programming trends in special education
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Working knowledge of functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans
    • Experience in supervising and scheduling paraeducators/paraprofessionals
    • Special Education endorsement in one or more of the following: Autism spectrum, Emotional disabilities, Intellectual disabilities, Multiple disabilities
