GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs skilled electrical and mechanical work required for the operation of the entire plant ammonia refrigeration system; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is skilled mechanical work with primary responsibilities for the maintenance, operation and basic repair of the plant ammonia refrigeration system. Secondary responsibilities include general plant maintenance duties. General work assignments are received from the refrigeration manager, but in executing assignments the employee exercises responsibility and independent judgment to accomplish work assignments with minimal or no supervision.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Operates and runs plant refrigeration system including start up, shut down and pull down of equipment;
Performs maintenance on various pieces of equipment;
Performs preventative maintenance on plant machinery and equipment;
Keeps maintenance records on all refrigeration machinery and equipment;
Troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems;
Defrosts systems;
Tracks runs and operating parameters;
Works with electrical control systems, (defrost, transfer, pump packs, etc), microprocessors, timers and industrial electronics, (480V-24V)
Understanding of Process Safety Management (OSHA)
Assists outside contractors;
Basic welding;
Writes Standard Operating Procedures for equipment;
Reads and studies operating manuals.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of principles of refrigeration equipment and refrigeration theory, proper maintenance procedures and principles of operation; extensive knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment of the electrical and mechanical trades, extensive knowledge of occupational hazards connected with refrigeration work; ability to study and understand operating manuals, read blueprints and perform required services; mechanical ability; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and users of equipment; skill in the use and care of tools, machinery and equipment of the electrical and mechanical trades; good judgment, dependability.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Considerable experience in operation and maintenance of refrigeration system. Extensive knowledge of mechanics and electronics, and completion of various courses in electrical, mechanical and electronic maintenance or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
