Family Services is Hiring a Shelter Coordinator Near Salem, NC

Summary:
Directs compassionate services that will strengthen the well-being and recovery of victims experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and/or elder abuse within the Family Services Emergency Interpersonal Violence Shelter. This position coordinates services that are necessary for the running and upkeep of the shelter and supports survivors by alleviating stressful situations and providing resources that respond to their needs while helping to increase the larger community response to interpersonal violence.
Essential Functions:
  • Develops a competent, productive, and guest-focused professional staff. Oversees evening and weekend coverage by training and supervising evening and weekend staff. Recommends hiring, transferring, promoting, demoting, disciplining, and terminating staff. Appraises performance and provides educational and experiential growth opportunities.
  • Coordinates guest services such as weekly guest house meetings, addressing and de-escalating conflict between guests, in-taking guests into the shelter.
  • Maintains the physical plant of the shelter by identifying and monitoring residential tasks assigned to the resident advisors and by scheduling regular maintenance/repair services. Develops a rotation schedule for day staff which will allow for backup shelter coverage and provides site coverage when the resident advisors cannot cover emergency situations.
  • Provides advocacy services to guests by linking both shelter residents and non-residents to community housing through Rapid Rehousing program. Case manages a small caseload of clients through the Rapid Rehousing program.
  • Provides crisis call and site back-up coverage at night and on weekends as needed. Provides other support as needed for client services. Performs such other duties as incumbent upon the position and as assigned.
  • Plays an active role in raising the visibility of services offered and connecting the program to the larger community. Provides outreach to partners agencies and tours of the shelter to partners and donors. Leverages relationships to increase the level of community resources (financial, volunteer, tangible, and in-kind) which benefit FSI programs.
  • Promotes a positive image of FSI by ensuring an understanding of program services available, publicizing activities and accomplishments and conducting oneself according to a professional code of ethics. Maintains harmonious working and collaborative programming relationship with various sponsoring and advisory groups and other related services agencies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • At least two years’ experience serving interpersonal violence clients / guests in a low-barrier, trauma-informed environment.
  • Two years’ experience supervising front line staff to desired quality of service delivery and demonstrated ability to review staff performance preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention skills and domestic violence and sexual assault response. An understanding and acceptance of regional psychosocial, cultural, religious and economic differences.
  • Articulates ideas clearly (both written and orally) and able to establish personal rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Strong listening skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback
  • Maintains dignity and self-control in stressful situations and objectivity about personal strengths and limitations.
Expected Hours of Work:
Primarily Monday to Friday daytime. Some evenings and weekends and/or holidays as needed.

  • Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment.
