Family Services of Westchester is Hiring an Assistant Teacher Near Mount Vernon, NY

Assistant Teacher

Family Services of Westchester (FSW) provides mental health and social services that strengthen and support families, children and individuals at every stage of their lives. With 50 innovative programs, FSW serves 30,000 individuals annually in Westchester County, New York, here to create hope, restore dignity and connect families with the resources to get back on track.

Founded in 1954, Family Services of Westchester is a private, nonprofit, non-sectarian social services agency.

FSW’s Head Start/Early Head Start is a federal government program that was created in 1965 to give preschool children from low-income families a “head start” on their readiness for elementary school.

**Effective April 1st, 2024 – April 30th, 2024, we will be offering a sign on bonus of $1,000 to all Lead Teachers and $500 to all Assistant Teachers who apply within the specified window of time.

This sign on bonus will align with FSW’s outlined procedure, as well as be agreed upon between both the applicant and HR upon time of hire.**

Job Details:

Family Services of Westchester is looking for full-time Assistant Teachers for our Head Start program. We are hiring for multiple locations throughout Westchester County.

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Teacher
SALARY: $16.75/hour
STATUS: Permanent/Full Time
SUPERVISED BY: Head Teacher
PURPOSE: To assist and support the Head Teacher to interpret and implement the Head Start & Early Head Start programs to address the needs of each individual child.
WORK LOCATION: One Location

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Ensure health and safety guidelines for children.
  • Assist lead teacher in the documentation, reflection and planning process to implement the curriculum.
  • Attend staff training to support professional development.
  • Build relationships with families and communicate about children's learning and development.
  • Assist with creating a warm and inclusive environment for children and families.
  • Assist with creating visual evidence of the narratives and curriculum occurring in your classroom.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor and Head Teacher.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • CDA or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, English fluency.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA: Performance will be evaluated based on:

  • Continuing to pursue education in the Early Childhood field.
  • Performance and Goals
  • Seniority.

Ability to Commute/Relocate:

  • White Plains, NY 10603: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
