This position has a starting rate of $24.23/hour for LPNs and $35.87 for RNs.

Department: Psychiatry Job Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: YCRC Nurse Manager

Positions Supervised: None Amount of Travel Required: Negligible

Work Schedule: 2nd shift M-F 2 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Position Summary

Provide nursing services to youth receiving care in the YCRC program.

Nursing services include, but are not limited to: initial admission assessments, development and implementation of a nursing plan of care for mental health needs, health screenings, urine drug screens, wellness counseling (group and individual), monitoring symptoms of illness or injury, monitoring youth who may be experiencing the after effects of drug use, medication administration and management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide medical/nursing assessment of youth being admitted to the Youth Crisis and Recovery Center.
  • Provide concise, thorough documentation of all interactions with youth and families, or interactions with other providers on the youth’s behalf in the agency’s electronic health record.
  • Maintain medication administration record and insure accuracy of staff administering medication.
  • Insure medications are organized and stored securely.
  • Communicate effectively with parent/guardians, clinicians within the agency, YCRC staff, as well as referral sources, primary care providers, school officials and others involved in the care of our clients.
  • Assess the nursing needs of the Youth Crisis and Recovery program.
  • Maintain the Heartstart Defibrillator and associated supplies and assist in education/protocols for its use.

Qualifications


Education/Licensure:

  • Licensed RN or LPN with psychiatric and substance use treatment experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about child and youth social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
  • Must successfully pass the KBI, DCF Central Registry and all background investigations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, current auto insurance and reliable transportation.

Experience:

  • Must have 1 years’ experience working with psychiatric populations.
  • Familiarity with psychotropic medications is required.
  • Experience with child and adolescents preferred.
  • Must successfully complete all applicable background checks.
  • Must have sufficient ambulatory capabilities to work with children/youth in the office.
  • Ability to effectively engage with youth exhibiting verbal and/or physical aggression.
  • Must exhibit satisfactory verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must coordinate schedule with coworkers, so that the nursing office is never left uncovered.
  • Must be able to maintain effective operation of the nursing office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office based working environment requiring long periods of sitting, continual use of the keyboard and personal computer and/or speaking on the phone. This is also a direct service position with frequent interruptions. At times the children/youth express themselves by verbal or physical acting out. Restraining acting out youth is a possible occurrence.
