FAMILY MEDICAL CLINIC

FNP-PA Job Description

Responsible for planning and directing the delivery of primary care and health and urgent care. The incumbent will provide primary care and health education for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Employee will work under general established supervision using protocols as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborates with the precepting physician in establishing/ reviewing protocols for managing acute and long-term medical needs of the patients.
  • Performs a complete physical exam, obtain a complete medical history and records findings. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnoses and therapeutic plan.
  • Provides medical services and health education to adult and geriatric patients under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner's preceptor.
  • Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner's

preceptor which may include the following: securing, recording, and evaluating the health, psychosocial and developmental history of patients, ordering laboratory and x-ray studies, conducting prescription drug orders under protocols, management of common or chronic illnesses, referrals, etc. Documents the processes of nursing care delivery.

  • Administers or gives orders to nursing support to administer medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines. Sutures minor lacerations.
  • Functions as a patient advocate, conducts follow-up care and coordinate care with other health care providers and makes appropriate referrals for continuity of care.
  • Maintains accurate and complete medical records in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates effective guest excellence skills with patients, families and guest.
  • Provide educational counseling that will enhance patient care and preventative knowledge.
  • Participates in the selection, supervision and evaluation of clinical personnel utilized in the clinic.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • BSN and a Master's Degree in Nursing with successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program as approved by the state of Tennessee.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • RN License, APN Certification for FNP and NCCPA Certification for Physician Assistant and ACLS certification. Current DEA license issued by the Drug Enforcement Agency.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prefer two years of experience in a clinical setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of nurse practitioner prinicples and techniques. Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and productively in a team environment with a diverse set of employees, patients and families. Process computer skills sufficient to conduct word processing for document development and patient record documentation.

INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Daily contact with employees and management in all areas of the clinic, hospital and other outpatient services. Must be able to effectively communicate in a cooperative manner.

  • Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Frequent contact with physicians, patients, patient’s family members, and community agencies to coordinate and provide educational opportunities to patients and their families.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must provide supervision for clinical support staff that work directly with the patient as established by clinic guidelines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 30 pounds periodically throughtout shift.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat and kneel periodically throughout shift.
  • Must be able to reach, bend and twist periodically throughout shift.
  • Must be able to react quickly in emergecny situations.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Subject to exposure to communicable diseases and biohazard materials.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $114,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
