Family Guidance Centers is Hiring a Community Mental Health Liaison (CMHL) Near Saint Joseph, MO

This position is embedded with the St. Joseph Police Department.
DESCRIPTION
The Community Mental Health Liaison (CMHL) is responsible for the coordination of services for individuals with behavioral health needs who have come to the attention of law enforcement officials, the courts and/or hospital emergency departments. The CMHL is responsible to complete crisis and routine assessments which will determine the appropriate level of care and treatment services needed. The CMHL further ensure that consumers are able to access treatment services recommended and assists the consumer with this as needed. The CMHL must subsequently be familiar with, and develop/retain positive relationships with, local behavioral health providers, inpatient psychiatric providers, and local emergency departments. The CMHL will also be the agency lead on civil commitment procedures and state guardianship statues, rules, and laws.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Work may include but is not limited to the following examples:
  • Coordinate services and develop local systems of care for individuals with behavioral health needs who have come to the attention of law enforcement officials, the courts and hospital emergency departments.
  • Participate in local law enforcement Crisis Intervention Teams or other initiatives that assist law enforcement in dealing with individuals with behavioral health needs
  • Collaborate with local partners in Mental Health Courts or other specialty or diversion courts dealing with behavioral health issues
  • Provide or coordinate training and consultation on behavioral health issues for court clerks as needed.
  • In coordination with ACI, assist law enforcement by working together in assessing individuals with behavioral health needs
  • In coordination with ACI, assist those with behavioral health needs by accessing appropriate voluntary services upon referral by law enforcement or the court.
  • In coordination with ACI, assist law enforcement and the courts in locating inpatient psychiatric beds for court ordered involuntary detentions and in filing petitions for involuntary detention with the probate court for those individuals who present a likelihood of serious harm due to a behavioral health illness.
  • Provide screening, crisis intervention and other clinical services in office and out of office as needed.
  • Prepare reports as required by DMH, DBH, and/or other entities.
  • Must be able to use the agency electronic medical record program for all documentation. Is required to use collaborative documentation..
  • Provide community consultation and education services.
  • Participate in departmental, agency and interagency meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with continuous quality improvement efforts for this service.
  • Must be able to facilitate and manage crisis situations.
  • Must be able to help cover crisis access services, when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a Notary Public Commission.
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of behavioral sciences and allied disciplines involved in the evaluation, care and rehabilitation of persons suffering from mental illness or emotional disturbance.
Knowledge of case management methods, principles and techniques.
Some knowledge of community resources used in the provision of services.
Skill in resolving conflicts and negotiating with others.
Ability to collect and analyze information in making decisions concerning a consumer’s treatment.
Ability to act decisively when necessary to protect consumers; to make judgments about crisis and carry out appropriate course of action.
Ability to assist, and exercise tact, patience, and understanding of others.
Ability to work harmoniously with employees, consumers, consumer families, guardians, public agencies, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and through legible and clear writing.
Ability to be proficient in typing.
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Ability to recognize potential ethical problems and address in ethical manner.
Ability to plan and organize working time effectively.
Ability to perform with autonomy or with minimum direction.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

The following education and experience qualifications are the minimum requirement used to admit or reject applicants for consideration.
  • Master of social work, psychology, counseling or related field.
  • Two (2) years minimum clinical experience in behavioral health field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention/de-escalation techniques, assessment of suicidality and diversion planning utilizing available resources.
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and is, and remains insurable, under Family Guidance Center automobile liability insurance.
