Youth Advocate

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Help youth and young adults overcome barriers to self-sufficiency by providing services such as mentoring, educational support, and involvement in independent living skills group meetings.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide mentoring services for youth and young adults facing barriers to success.
2. Plan and participate in meetings with mentees to occur twice a month.
3. Plan and participating in quarterly group mentoring activities
4. Assist participants in identifying their academic area of need and develop a plan to meet that need.
5. Schedule and maintain regular meetings with youth to reach identified academic goals.
6. When suitable, communicates regularly with participant’s school of record and teaching staff to plan for a successful completion of the academic year and/or graduation.
7. Assist participants with activities that help prepare for and transition to post-secondary education and training.
8. Connections for/to dropout prevention, recovery services, and alternative secondary school options when appropriate.
9. Plan and facilitate group meetings that provide life skills for a successful transition to independent living.
10. Accompany group members on field trips
11. Provide all participants with referrals for additional services when a need has been identified.
12. Transport participants as needed for program success.
13. Complete all necessary program documentation in a timely manner.
14. Maintain regular communication with PCJFS CCMEP case managers,
15. Attend PCJFS meetings as requested.
16. Represent the agency/program to the public in a positive and energetic manner.
17. Comply with all grant requirements, including evaluation.
18. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
19. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving.
2. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the aptitude to develop effective relationships.
4. Strong computer skills.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: BS or BA from accredited university preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Social Service or mental health experience required. Experience with children required.
