Next Step

Full-time: $45,000/year

Next Step provides housing assistance, crisis intervention and case management support to young adults ages 18-24 who are experiencing homelessness and/or aging out of foster care. 

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, some on-call hours

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Oversees general operation and upkeep of shelter including policies, procedures, staffing, case management and quality assurance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversees planning, case reviews and program goal achievement when necessary.

2. Collaborates with the Courts, Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Legal Services, Hospitals, WomenSafe and other Social Service Agencies toward the minimization of victimization.

3. Collaborates with Jobs and Family Services, Metropolitan Housing Authorities and other Social Service Agencies towards addressing issues of homelessness.

4. Responsible for creating and maintaining a positive program image in the community.

5. Responsible for the evaluation and continual improvement of program services and activities.

6. Accepts referrals from area Criminal Justice Providers to interact with victims of violent crime, and then conducts professional and confidential intakes and assessments, including Civil Protection Order assistance.

7. Provides case management as needed. May meet with clients at a safe location for early crisis intervention and discussion of the clients ‘options. Provide follow-up with clients and service providers as needed.

8. Oversees the attendance of court hearings with legal advocacy clients as necessary to explain procedures and support decisions.

a. Arraignments, preliminary hearings, pre-trials, trials, and sentencing in Criminal court.

b. Ex-parte hearings and Full-hearings to help client to obtain a Civil Protection order in Domestic Relations Court

c. May also aid in the preparation of Victim Impact Statements.

9. Oversees the maintenance of client files and records confidentially and reports statistics to appropriate persons

10. Oversees solicitations and acceptance of donated goods and services to the programs. Adequately acknowledges donors.

11. Models awareness and behavior needed for growth and development.

12. Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates shelter specialist staff; oversees staff development and training; conducts routine evaluations of all staff under supervision and provides ongoing feedback to staff for improvement.

13. Supervises the Case Manager position and provides feedback on case management and family planning provides support and ideas to case manager for case management and referral.

14. Responsible for communicating shelter and grounds maintenance, needs, building improvements, equipment and supplies, and submitting proper work order requests.

15. Facilitates shelter staff meetings; attends agency in-services and staff development activities when provided.

16. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements and educational/certification/registry requirements.

17. Fulfills other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Management experience preferred

2. Knowledge of Client centered model of crisis intervention skills, and ability to teach crisis intervention.

3. Ability to model open communication and work in team structure

4. Understanding of homelessness and victimization.

5. Experience working with young adults.

6. Must comply with motor vehicle check and have personal transportation.

7. Must pass criminal records check.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related field and/or 4 years minimum

experience serving homeless young adults and/or victims in a residential setting.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Management experience preferred
