Families of Autistic Children of Tidewater is a small business in Virginia Beach, VA. We are inclusive, supportive, social and our goal is to provide an enriching social experience while engaging in recreational activities that are supported in a safe and enriching environment.
Our Vision: For children with autism, Camp GonnawannaGOagin’ is meant to be a haven from the daily struggles of learning, communicating, and interpreting the world around them. We passionately believe that “children with autism are children first”.
Our Program: FACT is a non-profit organization that hosts six one-week sessions of camp each summer. Camp is in session Monday through Friday from 9:00AM until 3:00PM with a staff meeting every morning at 8:30AM. Students 5and older with a primary diagnosis of autism are eligible to attend. Camp offers everything a day camp for typical children would offer swimming (beach, pool, Ocean Breeze), community-based field trips, games, sports, music, and crafts. FACT employs a knowledgeable and compassionate staff that works on a 1:2 ratio with campers. Every camper is assigned a typical “peer buddy” that models expected behavior and offers acceptance and encouragement. Camp utilizes a variety of communication tools, best practices in behavior management, and ongoing positive reinforcement to ensure the best possible experience for each child..

We are looking for energetic, outgoing and responsible individuals to join our team of camp counselors. The successful candidates will be responsible for interacting with campers and ensuring the safety, care and development of our children. A camp counselor's responsibilities include:
Lead Teacher Requirements: Proof is required to be submitted
Bachelor’s Degree or Higher in Special Education or related field and 8 hours of ongoing related educationPursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field and 3 months of Supervised experienceHigh School Diploma with minimum of 1-year supervised experience and 24 hours of ongoing related education/training
AID Requirements: Proof is required to be submitted
Students who will be 16 years old by June of the current year, may complete an employment application to be an Aid. Aids will be assigned to a lead teacher and assist them with overseeing two campers with Autism and up to two non-disabled inclusion campers. Aids should be available to work at minimum of 2 weeks and may work as many as 6 weeks. Aids will be paid based on their age and experience. Applicants not hired will be offered volunteer positions for community service hours if desired. Aids hired do not receive community service hours.

Pay: $12.00 - $17.00 per hour
