Description

The Operations Manager, Adult Shelter is responsible for managing the shift operations daily, including scheduling, rotations, crisis management, customer service, security screening, bed assignment, clothing, toiletries, and referrals. The manager will be part of the day/evening shift rotation and will oversee all aspects of the shift in the absence of the Supervisor, including helping the shift stay focused on a service model that emphasizes use of Trauma Informed Care, and crisis prevention. The Operations Manager will ensure that services are provided with dignity and respect for all individuals. This position will ensure resources for guests are available at critical times to assist them in their efforts to obtain permanent housing. This role is responsible for supporting the standard operations of the program implemented by shelter support staff and is integral in supporting the agencies mission and strategic plan; working closely with the Director of Shelter Operations to continuously assess, create, and implement programs, initiatives, and SOPs to expand and further shelter offerings. 

Essential Functions:

· Work directly with the Supervisors and Shelter Support Staff to monitor efficiencies of daily operations, programming, policies

and procedures.

· Demonstrated ability to successfully lead in a human service setting with a strong concentration in working with individuals with 

multiple challenges including substance abuse and untreated mental illness * Direct care experience with people who are 

homeless or experiencing poverty.

· Oversee day-to-day operations of shelter and participants in the absence of the Supervisor or as assigned;

· Monitor participants, program and perimeter for safety concerns.

· Ensure guest participation in program development and changes through community meetings and other forums

· Along with the triage team and case management staff, take responsibility for the diversion and prevention of potential intakes to

the adult shelter,

· Communication and education around all program specific procedures and policies.

· Ensure full completion of intake and timely data entry

· Assess guest needs and make appropriate referrals for services.

· Provide appropriate documentation for each guest and each stay

· Assist guests in understanding how services are provided; explaining procedures; answering their questions; explaining their 

rights and grievance procedure

· Keep timely and accurate records and documentation regarding participants and all necessary statistics

· Develop and maintain close working relationship with other staff, departments, programs and services to ensure cohesive

delivery of services

· Assist in developing procedures that ensure a safe environment for our guests. Monitor the building and

neighborhood for safety/security.

· Document incidents and make appropriate changes in unsafe situations including grievances and complaints.

· Keep accurate records regarding payroll, staff evaluations, guest issues and maintain the communications log

· Advise the Managers and Director on matters concerning participants and violations of policy.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements (Education/Experience/Certificates/Licenses):

· Education: Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field.

· Experience: 3-5 years working in Shelter or similar environment working with similar population.

· Work with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word and Excel.

· May be needed to work occasional evenings and weekends.

· Demonstrated proficiency in excellent customer service

· Maintain a professional appearance at all times.

· Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance is required.

· Criminal Background Check/Driving Record Check

Preferred Qualifications:

· Prior management experience

· Understanding and knowledge of harm reduction principles

· Understanding and knowledge of housing first model

· Understanding and knowledge of trauma informed services and strength based philosophy.
