Summary Of PositionFalvey Insurance Group, a leader in the insurance industry, is actively seeking a talented and experienced SQL Database Developer to join our dynamic technology team. This pivotal role demands a high level of proficiency in SQL, with a focus on advanced query building and sophisticated database design. The successful candidate will possess an understanding of SQL administration to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of our databases.
As an SQL Database Developer at FIG, you will play a critical role in collaborating with our system solutions teams, requirements engineering team, developers, QA staff, and DevOps to develop and maintain high-quality database solutions. Your responsibilities will include creating specialized database scripts for various tasks and developing comprehensive scripts and cookbooks for data migrations and transformations.
We value innovation and adaptability in our team members. Hence, familiarity with NoSQL databases, particularly CosmosDB, will be considered an advantageous skill. Your ability to integrate new technologies and methodologies into our existing systems will be instrumental in driving our database strategies forward.
Position FunctionsThe position will also be responsible for:
  • Advanced SQL Query Development: Design and implement complex SQL queries to meet business requirements, ensuring optimization and efficiency
  • Database Design and Management: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of SQL databases. Ensure database structures are efficient, scalable, and secure
  • SQL Administration: Perform routine database administration tasks, including monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to maintain database health and performance
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with system solutions teams, requirements engineering, other developers, QA staff, and DevOps to ensure seamless integration and implementation of database solutions
  • Development of Database Scripts: Create and manage database scripts for specific tasks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in data handling
  • Data Migration and Transformation: Develop scripts and cookbooks for effective data migration and transformation, ensuring data integrity and compliance with business requirements
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Technical Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database designs, processes, and specific scripts, ensuring clarity and usability for the team
  • Staying Technologically Updated: Keep abreast of the latest developments in SQL and NoSQL database technologies, particularly CosmosDB, and assess their potential application within the organization
  • Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and resolve database-related issues, providing technical support and guidance to other team members as needed
  • Quality Assurance Collaboration: Work with the QA team to ensure that databases meet quality standards and performance benchmarks
  • Source Control Management: Implement and maintain source control protocols for database code, ensuring version control and collaborative development practices. Utilize tools to manage changes and track revisions, facilitating team collaboration and ensuring the integrity and consistency of database code across development stages

  • In-depth knowledge of SQL programming and database design principles
  • Familiarity with SQL administration and performance tuning techniques

Preferred but Not Required:
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases, with a focus on CosmosDB
  • Advanced SQL administration skills, including in-depth performance tuning and optimization techniques
  • Experience with database scalability and high-availability strategies in a NoSQL environment
  • Familiarity with integrating SQL and NoSQL databases in complex systems
Minimum RequirementsEducational Background:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in SQL database development
  • Proven experience in SQL query writing and optimization
  • Demonstrable experience in database design and administration
Technical Proficiencies:
  • Strong command of SQL and database management systems
  • Experience with source control tools, such as Git or SVN
Analytical Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data structures
Communication Skills:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred RequirementsAdvanced Experience:
  • More than 5 years of experience in SQL database development and administration
  • Advanced SQL administration skills, including performance tuning and optimization
Additional Technical Skills:
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, particularly CosmosDB
  • Familiarity with integrating SQL and NoSQL databases in complex systems
Education:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Project Management:
  • Experience in leading database-related projects or initiatives
Physical RequirementsMust be able to sit and work quietly, operate a computer, and communicate on a telephone. Must be able to lift computers, printers, boxes, and monitors - not more than 50 pounds.

Working ConditionsBusiness-casual fast-paced multi-tasking office environment
Hours of Operation: This position's work hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, in a hybrid work environment. Our hybrid environment is three days within our business-casual office environment. Of these three days in the office, Wednesday and Thursday are required. The other days are work from home, and our employees choose their other day to be in the office. This position will require occasional weekend work and after-hours follow-up to ensure that all team members can access and utilize systems.
