Fairview Health Services is Hiring a Grants Specialist Near MINNEAPOLIS, MN

Overview

The Grants Specialist is a member of the Non-Research Government Grants and Sponsored Projects function and will plan an active role in the development, execution, and management of efforts in support of grant revenue growth. This individual works closely with service line and corporate/business services leaders and team members to bring best-in-class grants management support to grant-funded projects across the Fairview ecosystem.

Grants Specialists serve as post-award backstops to assigned portfolios of non-research government grants and sponsored projects. As backstop, the Grants Specialist supports the grant-specific Project Director to assure that project’s success and serves as primary liaison between that project and the Grants Office. Pre-award, the Grants Specialist conducts prospect research, supports proposal pursuit teams, and, at times, serves as lead grant writer. A successful Grants Specialist can effectively build trusting relationships with internal stakeholders, manage grant-funded projects throughout the grants lifecycle, and possesses strong planning, writing, and communication skills.

The Grants Specialist reports to the Federal and State Grants Director.

Responsibilities Job Description

Post-award

  • Track grant deadlines, review deliverables, update and keep track of the grant calendar, and take the lead (or manage) the writing of reports and submission of grant-related forms.
  • Monitor budgets, burn rates, and spenddown. Flag variances that may require grantor’s prior approval. Draft budget prior approval requests for Project Director’s review and approval.
  • Ensure compliance with grant standards and protocols, at project level, and coach project staff as appropriate.
  • Interface with project-specific grants management portals—track deadlines; upload and submit reports, prior approval requests, and other submissions; troubleshoot portal access barriers for the Project Director.
  • Oversee maintenance of official grant files, records, and supporting documentation related to federal, state, and locally funded grants.
  • Prepare grant documentation for audit purposes and participate in the grant audit process.
  • Coordinate grantor site visits, including material preparation and correspondence.

Pre-award

  • Conduct prospect research to identify grant opportunities from federal, state, and other grant programs.
  • Build out and manage annual proposal calendar based on historical federal and state granting patterns.
  • Support proposal pursuit teams—in whatever capacity necessary—to submit high-quality, on-time grant proposals. At times, serve as lead grant writer and/or proposal manager.
  • Develop standardized proposal templates to increase efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public health, public policy, social work or related field or combination of equivalent relevant education and experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience managing government (federal or state) grants that require single audits (or equivalent) and meeting reporting requirements.
  • Technical writing skills, including ability to distill and summarize complex information from multiple sources and align to proposals or other funding applications.
  • Experience working across multiple, multi-disciplinary teams, with the ability to gather requisite information from the right people in the time allotted.
  • Proven ability to work independently while being thorough and detail-oriented. Must be able to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of experience in government grants management.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience writing and coordinating grant applications for large healthcare systems.
  • Experience helping and teaching others about the grant process.
