Fairfax Water is Hiring an Industrial Electrician (Trainee) Near Herndon, VA

Under close supervision of a Supervisor or a more experienced Industrial Electrician, provides assistance with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and calibration, servicing, maintenance, modification and repair of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) and controls used in all Fairfax Water facilities.
 Provides assistance with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical/HVAC systems and equipment by:
 
  • Assisting with the daily electrical operations of Fairfax Water's water treatment plants and related pumping facilities to ensure uninterrupted production and reliability of equipment.
  • Assisting with the completion of new installation and preventive maintenance of electrical equipment and systems at Fairfax Water facilities.
  • Maintaining lighting systems and assisting in the maintenance of fire alarm systems, elevators and overhead cranes.
  • Making frequent inspections of all HVAC equipment to ensure proper operation as required by the preventive maintenance program.
  • Lubricating HVAC components; changing oil and filters, cleaning and dusting coils, fans, motors, condensers and evaporators; checking and calibrating electrical and pneumatic controls in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Assisting in installing, calibrating, modifying, updating, testing, repairing, rebuilding and replacing all types of HVAC equipment to include: gas and oil-fired commercial boilers, water and fuel feeds, power sources, burners, control circuits, associated components such as electrical wiring and circuits, blowers, air handlers, dehumidifiers, heat pumps, air conditioning units, ducts, thermostats, pumps, piping systems, radiators, and heating and cooling coils, testing and treating the water in HVAC systems and equipment operated in all Fairfax Water facilities.
  • Assisting in troubleshooting, corrective action and repairing of high voltage (13.2 to 4160) and low voltage (480/227 to 120/208) distribution systems.
  • Servicing motors ranging from fractional to 3500 Hp on a yearly basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Graduation from high school and an interest in learning electrical and HVAC systems (preferably in an industrial environment), or any equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge.
  • Ability to learn electrical and HVAC theory, the functions and maintenance of electrical systems, tools and equipment and safety regulations.
  • Ability to learn how to read and work from drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to learn HVAC electrical and electronic control circuits including computerized control systems.
  • Must pass a controlled substance (drug) test for employment. This position is also subject to random testing after hire.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must be willing to attend and successfully complete a four-year electrical apprenticeship program, and complete coursework in HVAC.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to work at other Fairfax Water locations as required.
  • Ability to work overtime and standby as required.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to return to work within one hour in response to after-hours emergency calls.
  • Must obtain Forklift Certification.
  • Must attend Fairfax Water HAZWOPER and First Aid/CPR training.
