The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Park Maintenance Worker to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level.Under the direct supervision of the Park Maintenance Crew Chief, performs a variety of routine, manual labor tasks. Participates in the work of an assigned athletic field or park maintenance crew, performing tasks relating to grounds maintenance and facility repairs. Performs maintenance on park facilities e.g., athletic fields, sport courts, picnic areas, playgrounds, amphitheaters, trails, restrooms, parking lots, signs, fencing, etc. Duties include mowing, snow removal, and other grounds maintenance tasks. Removes litter and performs rough carpentry, light construction, minor repairs, and painting of facilities, as necessary. Operates a tractor/bucket loader with attachments, small-engine park maintenance equipment, such as: infield groomers, utility vehicles, mowers, and other equipment. Uses gas and battery powered equipment such as trimmer, blower, and chainsaw. Performs related duties as required.Note: Reports to Area 2, 8116 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003 and is dispatched to assigned parks. In addition to hauling and equipment operation, this position is part of the overall labor team. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with overtime required when necessary. Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work required. Positions are subject to transfer to other maintenance operation locations. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position. Position is Emergency Service Personnel.

A complete list of position duties and unique physical requirements can be found in the position job description.)Collects and/or disposes of refuse, yard debris, recyclables, and other solid waste materials;Clears sidewalks of ice and snow;Mixes and pours concrete for foundations or other construction repair work;Operates various types of trucks (e.g., dump truck, loader, flusher) for transporting equipment, tools, or crews to job sites;Cleans facilities, to include removing trash and litter;Loads and unloads trucks;Moves furniture, heavy equipment, and materials;Performs routine building maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, moving, and making minor repairs to furniture);Repairs and maintains walkways, gutters, and downspouts;Applies pesticides, fertilizer, and other chemicals under supervision of a certified pest applicator;Maintains and repairs grounds and turf (i.e., reconditioning, vegetation control, and repairs);Repairs irrigation systems (i.e., sprinklers, valves, and pipes);Performs various landscaping tasks, to include propagating beds, edging, mulching, and planting;Performs minor building and/or equipment repair and/or maintenance;Operates tractors and mowers, chain saws, or cutoff saws;Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;Reports unsafe working conditions;Complies with safety competencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience performing maintenance activities to parks using a tractor/bucket loader with attachments, small-engine park maintenance equipment, such as: infield groomers, utility vehicles, mowers, and other equipment. Uses gas and battery powered equipment such as trimmer, blower, and chainsaw.
