SUMMARY

The Technology Support Coach (Coordinator) will provide expertise, training and support to Alaska Native/American Indian (AN/AI) students and families of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District (FNSBSD). This position will assist families to obtain reliable high-speed internet at home to enable students’ remote learning. This position supports parents through the training and utilization of various software applications used by the FNSBSD to increase their knowledge of the technology and to better engage in their student learning.

JOB DUTIES

  • Identify individual Alaska Native/American Indian families high speed access needs to enable students’ use of software applications for remote learning.
  • Identify, recommend, and develop solutions to assist families in obtaining high-speed Internet access at home for remote learning.
  • Provide general support and training for parents in the use of software applications and iPad and Chromebook devices to increase their knowledge to enable them to assist and engage in their student’s remote and in school learning.
  • Collaborate with FNSBSD staff as necessary to address the technology needs of families.
  • Complete monthly activities log in PowerSchool.
  • Attend both FNA and Fairbanks North Star Borough School District professional development trainings and meetings, as appropriate.
  • Participate in project evaluation, including attending meetings with project evaluator and providing input in project effectiveness and challenges to allow for continuous project improvement.
  • Assist in the management of information technology projects or system activities.
  • Leverages internal and external resources (knowledge bases, manuals, and support sites, vendors) to answer questions and resolve issues.
  • Maintains FERPA compliancy.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

  • Demonstrated experience in the area of technology support.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as well as with teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have an understanding of and the ability to maintain confidentiality of staff, parent, and student information.
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware, including Macintosh, PCs, iPads, and Chromebooks.
  • Experience with educational web-based and desktop applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through speech and writing.
  • Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • IT Certification or AAS and two years of experience. 
  • ITIL certification with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience on all platforms 
  • Experience with desktop operating systems, including Mac OS and MS Windows.
  • Experience with multiple technology areas, including operating systemsdevices, and educational applications.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities that may substitute for educational requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian families.
  • Experience training technology to adults of various skill levels.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Most of the work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. The office is a non-smoking facility with outside smoking areas. Required local travel, which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where protection of consumer confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided where/when needed.

SPECIFICATIONS

Supervision Received:

Position receives direct supervision from immediate supervisor; however, incumbent is expected to effectively perform day-to-day activity as denoted within job description. Work will be monitored through weekly meetings, monthly reports, and regular communication with your supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements and the general policies and procedures of FNA.

Position Impact:

Impact at the program level is high. The program’s level of compliance with program standards and effectiveness is directly affected by the effective performance of duties, especially as they relate to providing program services.

Per FNA’s automotive insurance policy, to drive an FNA-owned vehicle, an individual must be at least 21 years of age. To drive an FNA-owned vehicle with consumers in the vehicle, an individual must be at least 25 years of age. No employee may transport a FNA consumer in a personal vehicle.

Continued employment status will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background investigation and the pre-employment drug testing process. Where required, continued employment status (post job offer) will be contingent upon employee providing certification of annual tuberculosis (TB) screening and medical certification that employee does not, because of infectious or communicable disease, pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of program participants or others in the workplace.
