Fairbanks Native Associ is Hiring a MENTAL HEALTH TRAINER Near Fairbanks, AK

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY

Provides mental health, substance abuse prevention and suicide prevention training to the community and clinical service providers in order to enhance the understanding of suicide assessment, risk and protective factors, and follow up. Works closely with the Program Manager and clinical staff to deliver high quality training material and hands on training assistance.

JOB DUTIES

  • Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Conducts end-user training and active on-site training for In-Service and Workforce Development applications.
  • Develops working knowledge of all Mental Health training within the organization and acts as a main point of contact for end-users.
  • Supports annual updates and training for Workforce Development and Staff Development Plans. 
  • Demonstrates independent judgement in assessing training needs of staff and creates training plans and conduct training to meet those needs. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

  • Ability to report to work in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, as well as cross-cultural communication styles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as presentation skills.
  • Excellent time management, problem solving skills, organization skills, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency required in clinical workflows, policies and procedures and adult/ youth learning techniques.
  • Skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative and respectful working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and consumers.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field; a combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in behavioral health. 
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in suicide prevention.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience delivering training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Experience working with youth and young adults. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing between 25-50 pounds. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The majority of work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. The office is a non-smoking facility with outside smoking areas. The work requires local travel between various program components of FNA which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where protection of consumer confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided where/when needed. 

SPECIFICATIONS

Supervision Received:

Position receives direct supervision from the Program Manager; however, incumbent is expected to effectively perform day-to-day activity as denoted within job description. Work will be monitored through weekly meetings, monthly reports, and regular communication with your supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements and the general policies and procedures of FNA.

Position Impact:

Impact at the program level is high. Program’s level of compliance with program standards is directly affected by the effective performance of duties, especially as they relate to providing program services.

In order to drive a FNA-owned vehicle with consumers in the vehicle, an individual must be at least 25 years of age. No employee may transport a FNA consumer in a personal vehicle.
