Job Description
Job Title: Academic Program Director for Occupational Safety and Health & Environmental Management
Department: College of Safety and Emergency Services
Reports to: Academic Assistant Provost of the College of Safety and Emergency Services
FLSA: Exempt
Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (extended hours when requested)
Location: Remote
Job Summary
The Academic Program Director leads strategic planning, program maintenance and assessment, and curriculum development of the identified and appropriate program(s). Additionally, the Academic Program Director leads faculty to meet or exceed expectations, resolve academic issues, and build a community among faculty and staff.
Essential Job Tasks Additional duties may be assigned.
  • Recruits and hires Lead Faculty, Curriculum Lead, Full-time, and Part-time faculty with oversight by the Dean and Assistant Provost.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and coaches faculty within their areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinates disciplinary actions, as necessary, with Human Resources. Coordinates all strategic planning activities in assigned areas.
  • Conducts annual Academic Program Reviews.
  • Establishes and maintains membership of Advisory Board(s) and leads board review of all aspects of the program(s) for relevancy in the profession in which students are preparing to enter.
  • Leads the development, review, and assessment of all Course Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes in the area(s) of responsibility and guides curriculum reviews and development by identifying courses in need of revision; and in cooperation with Instructional Design and Technology, selects course writers, evaluates and gives final approval of new and revised courses.
  • Attends and actively participates in weekly Academic Program Director meetings, and Leadership Briefings, Annual Academic Affairs Leadership Meetings, and other meetings as scheduled.
  • Serves on committees, councils, and task forces as requested and participates in interdepartmental meetings as requested.
  • Leads monthly faculty meetings with all department faculty, record attendance, and ensure minutes for each meeting.
  • Resolves academic issues presented by students, staff, or CSU administration by working with faculty to resolve issues including, but not limited to, academic integrity violations, academic grievances, and grade inflation.
  • Collaborates with Faculty Services to determine required actions related to faculty compliance with teaching and performance expectations.

Knowledge

Education & Experience
  • Terminal degree, applicable to discipline, from an accredited institution required.
  • Previous academic administrative experience, teaching online at the university level, and a record of successfully engaging adult and/or nontraditional learners highly preferred.
  • Industry experience is required.
Equipment Used
  • Office equipment including computers, telephones, printers, faxes, and copiers.
  • Software use includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software.
  • Secure and reliable internet is required for this position.
Work Environment
Expected to design one’s own personal work environment with an understanding that periodic travel to work on site will be required. Required to be available via remote access and/or technology during the established working hours.
