HVAC Mechanic

Job Summary

FSI is looking to hire an HVAC Technician to join our team. In addition to the hourly wage, $4.57 per hour (up to 40 per week) H&W dollars are provided to offset the cost of medical insurance. The HVAC Technician will perform heating, ventilations, and air-conditioning installations, preventive maintenance, and repairs. Identify maintenance risks on equipment and diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems. Clean, adjust and repair systems, and perform warranty services. This technician will be part of a small team that provides full-service preventive and corrective maintenance to all equipment within the facility as well as grounds upkeep for the Military Treatment Facility on Robins AFB.

Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage/install/repair heating, ventilation & cooling equipment such as fans, vacuum pumps, air compressors, vents and ducts, air handling units, and lubrication oil coolers used in buildings or industrial processes.
  • Reviews and manipulates Building Automation Systems as required to provide adequate heating or cooling to the facility.
  • Services, maintains, and repairs Air Cooled and Centrifugal Chillers and Cooling towers up to 650 tons and all associated equipment.
  • Install, service and repair environmental-control systems in administrative, medical and other commercial facilities, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipe-fitting, and structural layout.
  • Mount compressors and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
  • Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
  • Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to insure proper operation.
  • Test joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap and water solution.
  • Replace defective, breakers controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair units, uses electrician hand tools and test equipment.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as repairing malfunctioning equipment and systems, replacing light bulbs and other fixtures, handling mechanical fixes, and maintaining the cleanliness of work areas.
  • Repairs; replaces sinks, water coolers, and toilets.
  • Inspects/repairs/paints damaged interior infrastructure surfaces by utilizing plaster & compound to patch minor holes/cracks.
  • Conducts routine preventive maintenance and building inspections to identify conditions that could lead to equipment failure.
  • Follows company’s safety, health and accident prevention plan while maintaining records in a timely fashion.
  • Sustains condition and appearance of lawns, grounds, and parking lots.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). 
  • Any personnel performing work on HVAC systems shall be certified by one of the following: A nationally recognized HVAC certification programs (i.e., North American Technician Excellence (NATE), the ESCO Institute HVAC Excellence Professional Level Technician Certification, the International Code Counsel (ICC), documented Journeyman status in a state or nationally recognized apprenticeship program, DD214 documented Level Five or higher training or other DoD equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, insurable driving record.
  • The ability to read and write English.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a NACI (National Agency Check with Inquiries).
