EYL ( Enjoy Your Life) 365 Project is seeking a dynamic, passionate educator with experience teaching preschool, elementary, middle school and high school, an ability to teach afternoon and day classes, and a desire to be part of a rewarding learning environment

Position Title: Teaching Artist

Start Date: Hiring on a rolling basis throughout the Winter 2024 - Summer 2024

Location: In-person at partnering educational institutions and homeless shelters in the Washington, DC area.

This role is Part-Time - May 2024-Aug. 2024.

Program & Job Description:

EYL 365 Project is currently accepting applications for a Dance Teaching Artist for the 2023- 2024 school year. We are seeking passionate and experienced Dance Teaching Artist with a strong interest in Social Justice and Racial Equity Arts Education. This position is for in school and/or after school residency opportunities, at our DCPS Ward 7 & 8 partner schools. TAs must have demonstrated previous experience teaching Dance, ideally in Washington, DC Public School settings. This position requires open communication, collaboration, and co- facilitation with educators on lessons, classroom management, and learning goals. Teaching Artists will have opportunities for professional development and advancement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

● Assist students in discovering and amplifying their unique voices, and in becoming respected leaders among their peers and within the community.

● Teach middle and high school dance classes

● Successfully lead after-school activities with groups of up to 15 - 20 students for grades 6 - 8th.

● Submit written lesson plans in a timely manner;

● Effectively manage the classroom and address student behavior issues in a positive, professional manner;

● Communicate clearly and positively with students, co-workers, and supervisors;

● Maintenance of the classroom and supplies;

● MUST be available, on-time, and prepared to work during assigned hours, for three hours a day, between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM

● Provide strong and flexible curriculum— built to adjust to the needs of each classroom

● Evaluation and observation to evaluate program success and ensure quality

● Provide students encouragement to draw upon their own experiences and create their own dance of empowerment, community, identity, power and sound.

● Providing an outlet for creativity and self-expression

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

● Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice

● Self-motivated, creative problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, well organized, and the ability to manage responsibilities independently while working with staff

● A professional artist who seeks to partner with young people to develop their art and can scaffold workshops so that everyone can participate

● Be able to adhere to the hour fluctuation depending on the programmatic need

● Bachelor’s degree Dance, Education, Youth development or closely related field

● Experience coaching or teaching school-aged children

● Leadership experience with classroom education, youth, and/or management

● Commitment to social justice, equity, and fairness

● Independent creative with willingness to work collaboratively

● Strong problem-solving & time management skills

● Ability to communicate effectively across multiple platforms with varied audiences

● Open to collaborating with classroom teachers on classroom management and learning goals

● Enthusiastic about dance, creativity, and teaching our students

● Reliable, committed, strong communicators QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

● Skills/training and professional experience in Dance

● Teaching experience (Washington, DC public school experience a plus)

● On-going commitment to strengthening teaching practice through feedback, professional development, and collaboration

● Experience in creating and facilitating poetry and multi-genre art lessons

● Self-sufficient and proactive is task completion

● Skilled in working with students in the classroom

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
