Position Overview: Ophthalmology technician work with ophthalmologists, medical doctors who specialize in the diagnoses and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. Ophthalmology technician work in a number of capacities, including assisting during eye surgery and setting up and performing maintenance on equipment. In addition, ophthalmology technician often perform diagnostic testing, including measuring a patient's vision, checking eye pressure, motility, and other task requested by the doctor.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient's visual status by

maintaining an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient quality eye care

  • The ophthalmic technician is able to effectively perform appropriate clinical testing by previous form education

and or clinical experience which allows an understanding of the theory, principals of eye care

  • Visual acuity measurement
  • Tonometry (measure eye pressure)
  • Refraction
  • Measure pupil size and reactivity
  • Test and measure eye muscle function
  • Visual field testing
  • Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures
  • Surgical assisting
  • Performed other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ophthalmic experience in full service ophthalmic setting
  • COA certification or greater is a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solver with analytical skills.
  • Personable; empathetic with patient's needs and concerns.
  • Well-organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team member
