Position Overview: Ophthalmic Cornea Technicians collaborate closely with ophthalmologists, specialized medical doctors focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions. They play a vital role in various capacities, including assisting during eye surgeries, setting up and maintaining equipment, and conducting diagnostic tests essential for patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Document all care provided and testing outcomes accurately in the EMR system; ensure proper facility charges input for services rendered.
  • Communicate patient needs, concerns, and clinical observations effectively to ophthalmologists and clinic residents.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient care equipment and rooms; manage clinical supplies to ensure a safe and sterile environment.
  • Assist ophthalmologists, residents, and healthcare team members during patient care in the clinic.
  • Conduct patient education on care processes during and post-office visits.
  • Perform manual refraction and evaluate cornea and anterior segment health, including measuring anterior chamber depth, eye movement (EOM), and confrontation fields.
  • Conduct various diagnostic tests such as Keratometry, Pachymetry, intraocular pressure tests, OCT, Slit Lam Photos, and more to evaluate eye structure and function.
  • Conduct visual acuity assessments at distance and near using appropriate diagnostic tools.
  • Administer medications following physician protocols.
  • Provide guidance and support in clinical functions and diagnostic testing to Ophthalmic Assistants as needed.
  • Obtain accurate patient ocular and medical history records in the EMR system.
  • Experience with Corneal Crosslinking and Lasik procedures is advantageous.
  • Travel occasionally (15%-20% of the time) as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of ophthalmic experience in a comprehensive ophthalmic setting.
  • COA certification or higher is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficient in computer usage, including EMR systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset.
  • Compassionate and empathetic towards patient needs.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% as necessary.
