Position Summary:

EPL is looking for a technician to join the Repository Team in our Durham, NC office. As a Repository Technician, you will join a work environment that encourages teamwork, quality, and offers opportunities for personal growth. The Repository Technician provides necessary technical support to clients by conducting inventory of clinical specimens, organizing, and maintaining archival specimens and data, and retrieving specimens to fulfill requests.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Inventory, inspect, verify, and catalog clinical specimens and data (hard copy and digital) in a systematic and orderly fashion

· Verify the quality and completeness of specimens and data to ensure specifications are met for long term storage

· File and retrieve information

· Retrieve data or specimens for client requests

· Use spreadsheets and databases to track, import, query, and report specimen information

· Maintain work area to ensure a clean, safe, and orderly facility

· Occasional courier duties including pick-up or delivery of biological specimens, data, correspondence, mail, and supplies using a company vehicle

· On-call rotation for monitoring equipment failures

Frozen Tissue Bank and Repository Responsibilities:

· Effectively use an Environmental Monitoring System

· Complete daily checks of all freezers and supportive equipment and inform Supervisor of performance issues

· Maintain laboratory by following daily cleaning procedures.

· Assist with packaging shipments under direction of DOT/IATA certified peer

· Accession frozen samples ensuring sample integrity

· Cold chain operations using dry-ice ice chests and cryo-carts

· Detect, document, and report shipment discrepancies to Repository Supervisor

· QC reports

Position Requirements:

· Associate degree in a Life Science or High School Graduate or equivalent plus 3-5 years of relevant experience

· Able to obtain an NIH Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Card within 60 days of employment. Eligibility includes a favorably adjudicated federal background check. More information can be found at https://policymanual.nih.gov/1443

· High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve

· Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

· Work effectively alone or as a member of a team

· Proficient computer and typing skills

· Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine and tissue samples

· Able to lift up to 50lbs, work in protective equipment and sit/stand for long periods of time

· Able to work in cold environments (-20°C Walk-in Freezers) and handle ultra-low temperature specimens (reach into -196°C cryo-tanks, handle frozen specimens with gloved hands)

· Strong hand eye coordination and dexterity in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight

· Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & Word primarily) and Adobe Acrobat

· Able to adapt to changing procedures, priorities, and tasks

· Valid NC Driver’s License and a good driving record

· Basic database knowledge is helpful, experience with BSI database a plus

· Basic knowledge of scientific, histologic, and medical terminology

· Previous histology courses are helpful

· Experience with frozen human/animal tissues is helpful

Able to work outside regular office hours (on-call requires evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
