Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required basic requirement and specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
A. You have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in accounting, auditing; or a bachelor's or higher degree that included auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (You must submit transcripts.)
--OR--
B. You have a combination of education and experience--at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.
Your background must also include one of the following:
1) Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
2) A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
3) Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (3) out of (4) duties listed below:
1. Applying accounting and auditing practices to support fraud investigations;
2. Resolving audit and/or accounting problems affecting compliance with laws or regulations;
3. Developing strategies that support fraud investigations;
4. Gathering and summarizing audit review results to prepare audit reports.
To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must possess:1. Conducting public financial accounting examination of accounting and financial records in fraud investigations;
2. Analyzing accounting data in financial investigations to identify suspected fraud in organizational dealings;
3. Performing auditing and financial analysis in areas of finance such as healthcare, government contracting public finance, securities, investments and/or banking;
4. Auditing and/or analyzing the financial operations of an organizations, individuals and/or corporations.
Responsibilities:
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Auditor support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maryland, located in Baltimore, Maryland. The Auditor's duties will include providing auditing and accounting services in affirmative fraud matters involving complicated financial and billing transactions, including health care fraud, grant fraud, government contractor fraud, and affirmative civil enforcement investigations.Full Time
