Overview:
To provide an appropriate educational atmosphere which encourages positive student learning and to participate in a dynamic setting with other classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists and other staff members in the development and implementation of the school's programs and goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Special Education or related educational field and five (3) years of successful teaching experience or
  • Master's Degree (preferred) or higher from an accredited college or university in Education or related field
  • Valid Florida Teaching certification
  • Certification or endorsement in reading
  • Certification or endorsement in ESOL
  • Certification in at least one (1) area of Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
  • Bilingual (preferred)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Our ideal candidate must have experience with ESE and ESOL compliance. Knowledge of compliance, paperwork, and laws involving ESE/ESOL, prescribed curriculum and child development; ability to communicate effectively using written and oral communication skills; knowledge of current research; basic knowledge of technology; planning and organizational skills; ability to manage the classroom and supervise students; skill in analyzing, diagnosing and evaluating student progress and programs; knowledge of varied learning styles; ability to use effective, positive interpersonal skills.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on programs and activities for students and the school.
  • Participates as an active member with other faculty and staff.
  • Participates in a cooperative effort with faculty and staff to plan, implement and evaluate programs of continuing school improvement.
  • Manages classroom and supervises proper care of equipment used.
  • Participates in personal professional growth activities focused on the acquisition of new and improved skills and knowledge.
  • Diagnoses and analyzes student progress and programs for the purpose of providing appropriate instruction based on the developmental stages of students.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Utilizes technology and current research in instruction.
  • Evaluates students progress on a regular basis.
  • Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.
  • Shows sensitivity to students, parents and the community and promotes student self-esteem.
  • Maintains professional relationship between school and parents.
  • Maintains contact with parents through parent-teacher conferences, telephone, or written communications.
  • Encourages parental involvement through school activities, connecting home and school.
  • Maintains all records as required, including but not limited to grade books, attendance records and student progress reports.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate. Attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Physical Ability:
Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (l2-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements:
  • Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination.
  • Some tasks require oral communications ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience with industry standard computer and technology including applications to support instruction and the ability to share that expertise with others.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuously upgrade skills in research-based and validated practices in the field of education, Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), community resources and technology.
  • Possess ability to design and deliver professional development to educators, school support staff, parents and related service providers, administrators and agency personnel.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends to meet the needs of the schools.
Job Description/Essential Role and Responsibilities:
  • Understanding of the six components of reading and the ability to apply research-based principles into the instruction and training of reading professional development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use assessment data, research-based instructional strategies and differentiated instructional approaches to develop effective professional development offerings.
  • Application of adult learning theories in delivering professional development.
  • Plan, develop and provide high quality professional development using research-based instructional practices to stakeholders in the FDLRS Action service area and in the state as needed.
  • Identify, collect, analyze and interpret data for school and district teams in order to provide effective professional development or coaching opportunities.
  • Provide professional development in a variety of settings and formats, knowledge and expertise of the continuum of services for students with disabilities (SWD), the framework for MTSS, research-based instructional practices, differentiated instruct.
  • Instructional coaching, demonstration, observation and feedback.
  • Problem-solving and other on-going action planning.
  • Plan, develop and provide professional development and technical assistance using alternative delivery methods.
  • Provide resources, consultation and dissemination of information.
