Excellent Community Services is Hiring a Male Direct Support Professional (Community Day Program) Near Washington, DC

FOR THIS POSITION:

A Male Staff is needed for a Male Client who needs assistance in the community. Experience working with persons with medical needs preferred. This client requires assistance in changing ostomy bag and transferring in a wheelchair, hence the need for MALE STAFF only.

Additionally, this person travels to the day program from his home via MTM transportation and will need a staff to accompany him. Staff will arrive to his home by 8am, park their car at his home, travel to the day program for activities, and return back to his home by 4pm to end their shift.

The hours for this position are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8am - 4pm for 24 hours per week. Additional hours are available at the day program Tuesday/Thursday to bring this position up to 36 hours per week Monday - Friday if desired.

Excellent Community Services, Inc. is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a community-based day program as they engage in a variety of recreation, leisure and social activities in Washington, DC and Maryland.

DSPs for Day Habilitation 1:1 will be responsible for developing person-centered community activities based on the interests and goals of the people we support. They will also seek to enrich lives by engaging program participants in new and interesting experiences that foster community integration and independence, including accessing public transportation and increasing vocational, social and safety skills.

All DSPs must be willing to travel throughout the community on a daily basis and engage their assigned people in planning an active and rewarding day in the community, utilizing public transportation whenever possible. DSPs accompany and monitor their assigned persons in community activities, complete daily notes and other supporting documentation regarding their progress. Good oral and written communication skills are essential.

SCHEDULE

The day program runs from 9am - 3pm, Monday - Friday.

The schedule for this position can either be Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 8am - 4pm (24 hours per week)

OR

Monday 8am - 4pm
Tuesday 9am - 3pm
Wednesday 8am - 4pm
Thursday 9am - 3pm
Friday 8am - 4pm

(36 hours per week)

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS
All hired candidates will be trained in our community safety measures. DSPs will be required to wear a mask for full duration of their 6 hour shift in the community and main office as well as other standard safety measures. As part of their job duties, they will also be assisting clients in following safety guidelines, wearing a mask, and maintaining social distance.

LOCATION
Our community site for starting the program day is at Bald Eagle Recreation Center in SW DC.

Our main office, for staff training and other employee-related tasks is located at Beechley Square Business Center, which is the main building at 4518 Beech Road, Temple Hills, MD.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of 1 year of experience working in Individualized Day Supports or Day Habilitation programs is REQUIRED for this position. Experience working in Employment Readiness or Supported Employment programs is highly preferred.

All candidates must have experience supporting persons in their community and connecting them to community resources, including accessing public transportation on a daily basis.

All candidates must have a High School Diploma and proof of graduation via the original diploma or official school transcripts. No exceptions

All candidates must have a current certification in CPR with AED and Basic First Aid

Selected applicants must have a current PPD/TB test, a Medical Clearance, and pass a criminal background check prior to employment. You can get your medical clearance and TB test at Metropolitan Assessment and Renewal Center (MARC) or your primary care physician. For info on MARC, visit https://www.marc-llc.net/services

Salary is competitive, based on experience.
