Overview

Exagen is a patient-focused and discovery-driven life sciences company dedicated to transforming the care continuum for patients suffering from debilitating and chronic autoimmune diseases. Our goal is to enable rheumatologists to improve care for patients through the differential diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of complex autoimmune and autoimmune-related diseases, including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. By leveraging our proprietary Cell-Bound Complement Activation Products, or CB-CAPs, technology, we help get to the real cause of a patient’s symptoms and guide their journey to improved health.

The Marketing Director plans and directs marketing of the organization's products and services by performing the following duties personally and through subordinate supervisors.

Responsibilities

Note: other duties may be assigned.

  • Establishes strategic marketing plans to achieve corporate objectives for products and services.
  • Deeply understands Exagen’s customers, and empathetically aims to improve the lives of the patients they serve.
  • Develops and executes comprehensive marketing plans and programs, both short and long range, to support sales and revenue objectives of the organization.
  • Researches, analyzes, and monitors financial, technological, and demographic factors to capitalize on market opportunities and minimize effects of competitive activity.
  • Develops and manages marketing operating budget.
  • Plans and oversees advertising and promotion activities including print, online, electronic media, and direct mail. Measures and reports KPIs and return on investment.
  • Evaluates and recommends distribution channel development programs.
  • Determines agencies and suppliers of record and negotiates contract terms and conditions for major services.
  • Serves as liaison with outside agencies on ongoing promotional campaigns.
  • Oversees development and production of promotional and collateral materials.
  • Develops and recommends product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share.
  • Measures, monitors and reports TAM and corresponding market share.
  • Ensures effective control of marketing results and takes corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated budgets.
  • Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Monitors competitive products and marketing activities.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers and key community and strategic partners.
  • Mentors, leads and supports Marketing team members. Resolves conflicts and facilitates changes in group structure to ensure on-going success.
  • Conducts mark surveys on current products and services, regularly measuring market trust, NPS, brand image and reputation.
  • Collaborates closely across departments and with senior leaders in the conceptualization of future product offerings.
  • Guides preparation of marketing activity reports and presents to executive management.
  • Establishes and maintains a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events.
  • Responsible for the selection, budgeting, planning, communications, and execution of trade show participation.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in regulated healthcare services desired, experience in the diagnostics space a strong plus.

Communication Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

Data Acumen:

Ability to understand complex data models, market data, survey and other research data, extrapolating key insights and translating them into actionable information..

Technology Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of common communication and data management tools including Office365 applications, diagraming and presentation software, email marketing systems, top social media platforms, Content Management Systems, survey and data analytics applications, SEO technologies and CRM systems, Salesforce strongly preferred.

Business Acumen:

Ability to understand financial models, relevant market variables, investment concepts, and think strategically in managing the department’s functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises one employee in the Marketing Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Salary range: $170,000 - $200,000
