We are seeking an Architectural Designer to join our Science and Technology practice in our Philadelphia office. 

As part of the Architecture Discipline, you will work independently supervising a small staff, within a collaborative environment, for project specific solutions that advance the design for site development, building organization, massing, plan configuration, material selection, architectural image and aesthetic for projects. As an Architectural Designer you will develop the design approach for small to medium sized projects with many complexities and program requirements. This position coordinates with the architectural, interiors and engineering team to develop design solutions that meet the client’s objectives and the firm’s goals for design excellence, financial viability and quality service.

Essential Functions:

• Supervise teams of professional and technical support personnel in project situations.
• Participate in Design Reviews of other designers’ projects.
• Assist market segment leaders and the marketing department in the preparation of design documents and presentations material inclusive of photography and portfolio maintenance.
• Work with Practice Leaders on developing design solutions and strategies for client presentations and responses to proposals.
• Work with market segment leaders and specialized planners to generate programmatic relationships which foster building configurations of great utility and design innovation.
• Create building designs which serve the client’s needs and responds to their desired image, space and aesthetic.
• Present the project to the client and conduct the primary conversations concerning the project design.
• Lead discussion to ensure the client’s understanding of certain relevant architectural issues.
• Work with the Project Architect in developing the building design by testing it in relation to codes and other issues that emerge in the Design Development phase.
• Assist the Project Architect in articulating design principles that help govern the detailing phase of the project. Author and/or closely supervise details critical the design concept.
• Work with the engineering disciplines (inclusive of civil and landscape) and Interiors to ensure consistent development of the project towards the design concepts established in earlier phases.
• Help carry the design concepts through CA by providing support on an as needed basis to the CA team.
• Mentor Architectural Interns.
• Assist senior designers and office leadership in promoting excellence in design.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s of Architecture
• 4 to 10 years of experience
• Prior conceptual design experience (i.e. worked within project design teams in the execution of design driven projects within owner’s budget constraints)
• Demonstrated superior graphic design and building design and conceptualization skills
• Proficiency with AutoCAD
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience hand drawing and sketching

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Masters of Architecture
• Registered Architect in at least one state with suitable credentials for registration in other states
• Demonstrated proficiency with Rhino, Grasshopper, 3D Max, Sketch-up
• Experience working on Science and Technology projects
