SUMMARY
As a Senior Substation Electrical Engineer, you play a critical role in the forefront of utility and renewable energy projects. Your technical leadership, proficiency in electrical systems, and ability to build strong relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors are instrumental in shaping the future of clean energy. Your expertise in substation design, implementation, and optimization makes a significant impact in our dynamic and innovative team. The position is located in Eden Prairie, MN. Hybrid or remote location considered.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical leadership for physical and/or protection & controls design disciplines on our substation team
  • Lead execution of physical and/or protection & controls design scopes for substation projects
  • Assist in management and implementation of substation department quality standards
  • Independently prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for substation design
  • Support and supervise multiple engineers and designers/drafters
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Understand project budget/schedule/scope expectations and hold team members accountable to these
  • Effectively delegate design tasks to facilitate the creation of well-organized, high-quality engineering drawings and calculations
  • Partner in identifying/negotiating project scope and setting project budgets and schedules
  • Perform detailed quality control reviews of peers' work
  • Support with project management, proposals, and business development activities 
  • Collaberate with leading department efforts to train and mentor other substation electrical engineering staff
  • Travel occasionally for project site-visits or to meet with clients
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience working as a Substation Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm, EPC firm, or utility
  • PE Licensure
  • 3 years' experience with renewable collector substation projects
  • 3 years' experience in a design leadership or project management role
  • Experience supervising and mentoring less experienced engineers
  • Proficiency with NESC and IEEE/ANSI standards as applicable to substation projects
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Mathcad)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand project budget/schedule/scope expectations and hold team members accountable to these
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • Analytical and problem solving skills, including ability to apply intensive knowledge of engineering principles to independently solve project challenges 
  • Ability to approach an ambiguous or challenging problem, identify a path forward, and communicate/delegate to team members accordingly
  • Understanding of both utility and renewable substation projects
  • Knowledge of substation SCADA design/programming
  • Ability to work with NERC compliance as it relates to renewable energy projects
  • Proficiency in creating relay settings files
  • Functional understanding of AutoCAD/Microstation
  • Experience with power studies software such as WinIGS, CDEGS, ETAP, SKM, ASPEN, PSSE, PSCAD, or others
  • Project Management experience preferred
