Position Summary
Xylem is seeking a Treatability Laboratory Manager four our location in Lawrenceville, PA. This role will lead our team to develop and validate water treatment technologies and process trains to enable the treatment of industrial process and waste waters to enable our clients to sustainably manage and care for water.
The Treatability Laboratory Manager ensures performance of research/testing activities in the laboratory This is achieved through optimum management of human and technical resources. This person supervises a professional structure involving different experience levels of chemists and technicians to complete treatability and pilot studies.

Core Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Supervises and provides technical guidance to a group of Scientists, Chemists, Lab Techs, etc., whose main responsibilities are the development and completion of treatability and pilot studies.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, and motivation of team members..
  • Develops, justifies, manages financial budget for the overall operations of the lab and the completion of the studies. Including human resources, equipment, & materials to meet developed objectives.
  • Responsible for all aspects of managing and operating a lab of this type; including, but not limited to, environmental permitting, operational permits, safety, cleanliness, development and managing to key performance indicators, building utilities (i.e. analytical water testing instrumentation, small scale treatability water treatment equipment and systems, vent hoods, deionized water treatment system, lab quality water treatment system, centralized compressed air system, specialized hvac system)
  • Keeps updated on technological progress involving lab equipment, water quality measurement analytical methods, and water treatment technologies.
  • Ensures planning of tests, research and resource prioritization to individual programs
  • Performs program development and ongoing supervision of compliance with costs, time, safety and quality standards and regulations, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Contribute to definition of new research projects/ programs
  • Ensures integrity of research and testing documentation from generation through the recording and communication processes
  • Keeps constant relations with other internal and external laboratories and third party vendors to carry out the necessary interactions and benchmark for technological interactions
  • Responsible for the full range of methods and processes. This may include the development of the methods and processes or adherence to established methods and processes.
  • Sets team priorities and provides guidance to others.
  • Interacts extensively with outside groups regarding budget, safety, quality, processes, and business impact for which they are responsible.
  • Responsible for team goals and accomplishments
Position Requirements
FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or similar with 5-10 years direct experience.
  • Optionally Master of Science degree 3-10 years related experience.
  • Optionally Ph.D 0-5 years related experience.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • Lead, Develop, Motivate, and Manage a technical based team
  • Be knowledgible in advanced measurement techniques and excellent lab practices
  • Good experimental and statistical design skills.
  • Ability to develop methods on new or existing water quality analytical instruments and write well-documented directions and procedures
  • Ability to work with a team of engineers, scientists, business developers, customers, and sales people to develop the optimal treatability and pilot trials to achieve a diverse range of challenges, goals and objectives
  • Ability to develop methods on new or existing water treatment treatability and pilot equipment and write well-documented directions and procedures
  • Ability to evaluate potential process improvements and develop solutions
  • Understands scientific principles and their applications with good understanding in areas in which they are regularly involved
