EveryMind is hiring a Therapeutic Mentor to join our Youth & Family Services team. The Therapeutic Mentor offers structured one-to-one strength-based support services to children and teens to address daily social-emotional needs. This includes supporting, coaching, and training children and youth in age-appropriate behaviors including interpersonal communication, problem-solving, social engagement, self-esteem, conflict resolution, and relating appropriately with youth and adults. The therapeutic mentor develops a behavioral health treatment plan with the family and youth where possible. This plan helps to ensure the youth’s success in navigating various social situations, learning new skills, and making functional progress while the therapeutic mentor offers supervision of interactions and engages the youth in discussions about strategies for their effective use.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruits and retains eligible youth and families to participate in school day, after-school, and community mentoring activities.
  • Plans and facilitates in-person or virtual activities, coaching, training, and services when youth/adolescents are available including afternoons and evenings.
  • Conduct regular assessments of students’ needs, incorporating input from key stakeholders including school administration, teachers, counselors, parents, and caregivers to develop an intensive care coordination plan of services/engagement.
  • Plans and implements intensive care coordination with existing parent/caregiver/guardian jointly developed with Therapeutic Mentor and/or the outpatient or school-based therapist (as applicable).
  • Incorporates evidence-based practices and individualizes activities to support students with a variety of physical, emotional, and social needs.
  • Develops and implements alternative strategies to learning new skills and making functional progress for effective, relevant programming, inclusive of social skill acquisition through role play and community based activities.
  • Completes aftercare planning and consultation to enhance support and ongoing mentor relationship with the child/youth.
  • Participates in enhanced conflict resolution and communication skills training.
  • Identifies and coordinates a list of community and behavioral health resources for youth and their families.
  • Implements evaluation aspects of all program components for youth and families. Analyzes outcomes and processes evaluations and makes service adjustments accordingly.
  • Maintains compliance with assigned contract(s) including:
    • Meeting all data/productivity requirements.
    • Maintaining minimum caseload requirements.
    • Timely and thorough completion of program reporting.
  • Participates in regular supervision and ongoing professional development to evaluate and improve the quality of youth development services provided and ensured that services are culturally appropriate and equitable for clients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision to be exercised:

Occasional supervision of interns and volunteers.

Supervision to be received:

Reports to Manager, Project Wellness.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, social services, or related field required.

Experience:

A minimum of two years relevant social emotional wellness and mentoring experience working with adolescents and families. Experience with community, school, or social services programming preferred.

Skills:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective organizational community engagement, mentoring, and record keeping skills. Must be able to manage multiple tasks while working effectively as a team player. Provide excellent customer service to those seeking assistance. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Teams, and other technology platforms.

Abilities:

Effectively interact and work collaboratively in a flexible work environment with a variety of constituents including CEO, board members, volunteers, paid staff, media, and donors. Ability to express ideas with clarity, confidence, and sensitivity. Must be able to maintain confidentiality involving clients in accordance with organizational and federal guidelines.
