Position: Oncology Nurse
Location: Rapid City, SD
Duration: 3 Months

Job Summary:

The Oncology Nurse provides specialized care to patients diagnosed with cancer. This role involves assessing patient needs, planning and implementing care plans, and providing ongoing support and education throughout the treatment process. The Oncology Nurse works closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients, advocating for patient-centered care and providing emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:

    • Perform comprehensive assessments of oncology patients to determine their specific needs and care priorities.
    • Administer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies, as prescribed by the physician.
    • Monitor patients for side effects and complications from treatments, providing immediate interventions as necessary.
    • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate and manage patient care.
  • Care Planning:

    • Develop and implement individualized care plans for oncology patients, including medication management, pain control, and symptom management.
    • Adjust care plans as necessary based on patients' response to treatment and changes in condition.
  • Patient Education and Support:

    • Provide education to patients and their families about treatment options, side effects, and self-care strategies.
    • Offer emotional support and counseling to help patients and their families cope with cancer diagnoses and treatment.
  • Advocacy and Collaboration:

    • Advocate for patient-centered care and support adoption of evidence-based practices and innovations in oncology care.
    • Collaborate with social workers, dietitians, physical therapists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive care for oncology patients.
  • Documentation and Compliance:

    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
    • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, hospital policies, and standards of care.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
    • Minimum of [X years] of experience in oncology nursing or related field.
  • Certifications:
    • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or other relevant certification preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
