Evergreen Public Schools is Hiring a Language Specialist (LS) -Teacher (6251 ELL) Near Vancouver, WA

2024 - 2025 School Year1.0 FTE (.4 FTE Harmony Elementary / .6 FTE Hearthwood Elementary)This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 05/17/2024.
This is a Leave Replacement (One Year Only) Position.
Evergreen Public Schools (EPS) offers the following to eligible employees who work at least 630 hours in a school year:

Summary StatementThe Language Specialist is a teacher who has both content and instructional expertise in English Language Development and Second Language Acquisition.
Essential Functions
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to design CCSS aligned Language Development Objectives for grades K-5 and for proficiency levels 1-5 as defined by the Washington State English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
  • Model and demonstrate lessons, co-teach, co-assess and co-plan in an effort to support teachers in differentiating and aligning core instruction with appropriate language support grounded in the WA State English Language Proficiency Standards and Achievement Level Descriptors
  • Directly support language development needs of English Learners
  • Act as an advocate, ELL representative, and language acquisition expert on student study and IEP teams
  • Assist in the facilitation and administration of the state placement and annual language assessment
  • Collaborate with/support the work of the Elementary Sheltered Instruction Leads in the building
  • Collaboratively and/or independently develop and facilitate ELL-related professional development at the direction of the principal
Qualifications
  • Valid Washington teaching certificate, Master’s degree preferred.
  • ESL/ELL and/or Bilingual endorsements required.
  • Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for the cost of the background
  • Proven working understanding of language acquisition and effective instructional strategies for English Language Learners.
  • Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Training in and effective use of GLAD and or SIOP (Sheltered) instructional strategies.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in
  • District curriculum resources
  • Effective instructional strategies, student-centered instruction including workshop model
  • Developing and Integrating language and content objectives
  • Differentiation aligned with English WA State Language Proficiency Standards
  • English Language Development instruction
  • Culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations.
  • Must have regular, consistent attendance.
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated strength in organization, communication skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing data to plan for instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a positive, collaborative member of a team.
