POSITION DETAILS:
EVSC Special Education Assistants work throughout the school year, beginning one day before school begins and ending on the last day of school. Enjoy your summers off! The schedule is 5 days per week at 6.75 hours per day and follows the EVSC School Board of Trustees approved school calendar. This includes 27 paid hoildays throughout the school year!
Additionally, Special Ed Assistants follow a salary schedule that provides an annual increase every year! This position will begin in the 2024-25 school year.

The hourly rate for a current EVSC assistant will be based on years of service with EVSC in an assistant role. Annual, incremental pay increases are given for each year of service with the EVSC in this role if an employee has worked 120 days in a school year. New employees will begin on year 1.
BENEFITS:

If elected, insurance coverage begins the first of the month following the successful completion of a 30-day probationary period.
Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use any of the three EVSC Health & Wellness Centers. The health clinics provide primary care services, generic prescription medications, physicals, health screenings, and labs; all at NO COST to the employee or covered family member.
EVSC is proud to provide accumulated paid time off for:

EVSC employees have access to the EVSC Wee Care Learning Centers. The Wee Care program provides a quality early learning experience for employees' children as young as six weeks through age five at a special employee rate.
This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan. Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre-tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan.
Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity.
EVSC offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It is a confidential, voluntary service that provides professional counseling and referral services designed to help employees and their family members with personal, job or family-related matters.
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED required. Additionally, all new employees are required to complete required online professional development within 60 days of employment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Vacancy is posted first for EVSC Special Education Paraprofessional transfers. If no internal transfer takes place, outside applicants will be reviewed and considered.
This position is based upon student enrollment in this school building. Fluctuating student enrollment may make it necessary to move an employee to another school building or reduction in hours. Enrollment is evaluated at the start of a new school year. The EVSC works diligently to ensure employees maintain the position that they are hired for but in some cases, transfers may occur in order to effectively serve EVSC students.

SUMMARY:

Assist vocational education, special education teachers, and the Transition Coordinator in implementing the Community And School Education (CASE) and other transition programs for students with special needs. Assist program staff in providing appropriate vocational training and one-on-one assistance to students in work experiences at community employment locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide student transportation from school to community work site.
  • Provide appropriate on-site training to students as directed by the vocational special education teachers, Transition Coordinator, and/or work site supervisor.
  • Assist vocational education, special education teachers, and Transition Coordinator in planning program experiences.
  • Maintain reports and records of student performance.
  • Obtain consents, emergency forms, photo releases, training plans, and work agreements.
  • Communicate with certified staff regarding progress of students as well as program issues and concerns.
  • Maintain communication with employers regarding progress of students and other employment issues.
  • Assist in the task analysis of work experience.
  • Participate in case conferences with the Teacher of Record and/or the Transition Coordinator, as requested.
  • Follow the guidelines and directions of the vocational special education teachers and Transition Coordinator regarding job coach responsibilities and roles.
  • Maintain current knowledge of employment and training practices and the role of the student with special needs at the workplace.
  • Maintain regular attendance and on time.
  • Attend job coach meetings and trainings.
  • Provide city bus training to students.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to plan and provide training on pre-vocational tasks and/or on-the-job training skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, supervisors, employers, peers; skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to use Google and Microsoft products.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transports students to work sites and supervises/instructs them during their on-site work experience. Supervises and provides a safe environment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED required. All new employees are required to complete required online professional development within 60 days of employment. Previous experience with students with disabilities is not essential but helpful.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Certification in CPR preferred. Safe Crisis Management training optional. Must have valid driver’s license with good driving record. Maintain the minimum vehicle insurance required by EVSC. Provide documentation of insurance policy to the Transition Coordinator with every renewal.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, employers, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
