Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation is Hiring a School resource officer Near Evansville, IN

SUMMARY :

Responsible for providing law enforcement security to EVSC schools, primarily in the high schools. The Resource Officer will report to an assigned school and maintain uniform presence throughout the school day.

Work as a law enforcement officer with school administrators and staff to protect students, staff, and school buildings, and to create a safe educational environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide uniformed, armed security for an assigned school / s, maintaining the security of the building and the safety and protection of students and school staff.
  • Enforce State Laws by using general police powers. Assist school administrators and educators in the enforcement of the rules and regulations of the EVSC granted under IC 20-26-16-1
  • Follow and abide by provided instructional training regarding law enforcement in a school environment.
  • Coordinate efforts to promote pedestrian, school bus, and traffic safety at the assigned school.
  • Monitor the building security and recommend improvements and upgrades.
  • Serve as a school safety and security contact for school principals, administrators and employees and staff.
  • Enforce school Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug prevention.
  • Assist and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies and officers.
  • Respond to safety and security situations at all EVSC schools as needed.
  • Maintain regular attendance.

  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of School Trustees’ policies.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :

A minimum of one year of experience as a sworn police officer, with prior law enforcement employment ending no longer than six years from date of appointment to the EVSC-PD.

Must have successfully completed the minimum basic training and educational requirements adopted by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board under IC 5-2-1-9 as necessary for employment as a law enforcement officer.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations and State Laws.
  • Ability to write police related reports and complete school documentation.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, employees, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY :

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
