Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the Clinic Administrator, the Recovery Specialist provides peer-to-peer recovery support services to adults afflicted with substance use and co-occurring disorders and other bio-psycho-social conditions and complications.
Duties
  • Provides outreach and engagement services designed to assist clients in accessing prevention, treatment and recovery support services.
  • Schedules screening and intake appointments.
  • Responsible for arrangement of client transportation to appointments when needed and if asked to do so.
  • Provides one-on-one peer-to-peer recovery support.
  • Develops recovery plans, which include measurable goals and barriers to goal obtainment.
  • Facilitates peer-to-peer recovery support groups and workshops as assigned.
  • Makes phone outreach and "check-up" calls to members as assigned.
  • Serves as an advocate and mentor and supports individuals in their recovery.
  • Assists with securing and maintaining government assistance benefits, social services, unemployment and social security cases when and where applicable.
  • Assists members obtaining their birth certificates, social security cards and judgment of convictions, etc.
  • Assists with referring to sheltering, transitional, supportive and permanent housing for members.
  • Works with members to help them develop life skills.
  • Makes appropriate referrals based on the needs of the member.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS)
  • OR High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of full-time equivalent experience in the substance-related disorders field and currently enrolled in a program leading to the CPRS and under the supervision of a person who has the required credentials and at least three years' experience in the substance-related disorders field.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of addiction treatment and how to access it, access it, including the Stages of Change Theory; Motivational Interviewing; behavioral problem solving techniques; principles of recovery for either substance use or mental health disorders; case management activities and applications particular to recovery management; indigenous and community competencies; community resources for social support and how to access each; resources for food, clothing, shelter and other distal needs and how to access; resources for medical care and how to access; resources for mental health care and how to access; mutual aid recovery groups, their functions, values and beliefs and how to access; faith-based organizations and how to access; confidentiality rules and regulations related to substance use and mental health disorders prevention, treatment and recovery supports.
  • Ability to work independently in community settings.
  • Ability and willingness to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to be nonjudgmental of adolescents or adults who have a substance use or mental health disorder.
  • Must have acceptance of extremely flexible working hours.
