Nurse Practitioner Duties
Monitors progress of and intervenes in the course of chronic illnesses, using ODRC policies and protocols for guidance
Inoculates or vaccinates against communicable diseases & prescribes medications or administers treatment of acute and chronically ill patients & performs minor surgery as training & competency allows
Performs routine physical exams of patients to determine control or status of chronic conditions & diagnoses new conditions
Evaluates patients for the necessity of specialty referral consultations inside or outside the institution & reviews said consult reports for the recommendations, approving or disapproving accordingly
Orders & reviews the results of laboratory, x-ray, & other diagnostic testing as appropriate
With the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), facilitates the completion of medical reclassification & requests for non-formulary medications as necessary
Performs routine & emergency medical care of patients as scheduled
Examines, diagnoses & treats patients within scope of practice, as identified by the State of Ohio Nursing Board, as applicable
Conducts rounds on infirmary patients as deemed appropriate by the CMO
Writes up medical information gathered during patient interviews according to ODRC Office of Correctional Healthcare guidelines, policies, protocols & related American Correctional Association standards currently in practice, documenting all assessments & diagnostic impressions, as well as any other treatment plans & follow-up parameters
Cooperates with CMO medical quality oversight & accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance
