JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for performing routine general maintenance and repairs throughout the facility to manufacturer’s specifications to maximize up time. Assist with the basic installation and preventative maintenance of machinery/systems of various food processing equipment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES: include the following:

  • Performs equipment repairs through troubleshooting and diagnosis, adjusts, and replaces defective components in an efficient manner to minimize downtime.
  • Completes preventive maintenance requirements on various machines; following diagrams, machine manuals, manufactures instructions.
  • Through use of CMMS, completes scheduled and emergency Work Orders to maintain optimum manufacturing line efficiencies. Records data into QMANT as required.
  • Perform complex mechanical preventive maintenance and basic electrical preventive maintenance and trouble shooting. 
  • Implement creative repairs with the approval of team lead, supervisor or manager. 
  • Suggest improvements to the maintenance preventive plan, frequency, critical component checks and inventory spare parts suggested quantities.
  • All work preventive and corrective duties performed with GMP rules and Company policies 
  • Use of proper tools to ensure no damage are made to equipment or company property 
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, straight edges, and other tools necessary.
  • Adjust sensors and other basic electrical components to ensure equipment performance as needed. 
  • Performed work distributed by lead, supervisor or maintenance manager.
  • Pro active approach if no work is assigned and perform line inspections, part or equipment rebuilds or any unassigned work until duties are assigned by maintenance management.
  • Assists other mechanics in major repairs while learning how to determine the diagnostics for the repair. Generates paperwork for parts and work orders for service including tracking of the forklifts.
  • Inform lead, supervisor or manager about supporting colleagues. Include support time and parts in CMMS.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, hand and power tools; examining devices for repair and/or replacement.
  • Cleans and replaces different types of filters as needed.
  • Assists with building and grounds maintenance as needed
  • Informs supervisors and others in the management team regarding potential hazards and recommending corrective solutions.
  • Performs all work in accordance to OSHA standards for general industry.
  • Keeps abreast of new technology, devices and manufacturing processes.
  • Follows blue prints, installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment or conveyors as well as troubleshoots and performs safety control testing.
  • Attends company scheduled meetings as required (e.g., safety meetings, production meetings, department meetings).
  • Timely informs supervision of any problems or complications that may arise.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.
  • Proper and safe usage of tools and company equipment or property. 

In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all positions are also responsible for:

  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. Must follow all Company Safety policies, as well as all GMP regulations and all lock-out/tag-out requirements according to OSHA requirements.
  • As an employee at Europastry, you must also be aware of issues associated with food safety and safe food handling practices that are relevant to your job. Formal training is not required, but in house Food Safety Training conducted by a qualified staff member is mandatory. You must know how to recognize, prevent and alleviate food safety hazards. This position requires good working knowledge of the SQF code.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to measure size and dimension by means of calipers and to interpret bar graphs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft, Word, Excel and Power Point, G-Mail and MP2.

  • Must be able to operate industrial forklifts, equipment or tools.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at different heights.
  • Flexible to work overtime including weekends as needed.
  • Must have your own tools.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • 0-2 years of related experience as a mechanic.
  • 2-years of vocational school or equivalent experience.
  • Basic mechanical fabrication skills using shop equipment such as grinders, drills, lathes, saws, milling machine.
  • Knowledge of electrical tools and machines used in setting.
  • Basic knowledge on how to test voltages, current, and resistance by using a meter.
  • Basic knowledge of circuitry and the ability to remove and replace defective components such as relays, contactors, ballasts, simple contactors.
  • Basic understanding of PLC
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration as well as boilers and/or air compressors.. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and ear protection is required as well as other protective equipment (i.e., safety shoes).

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to effectively communicate with individuals possessing various degrees of technical expertise.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation
