JOB PURPOSE
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate eager to help leading companies and governments navigate the changing landscape of the steel and steelmaking raw materials industry in the United States and Americas as it transitions to a low carbon, sustainable future by collecting, analyzing and delivering the data and insights that our clients need.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced candidate who will be responsible for the collection, analysis and delivery of forecasts related to steel flat products, specialty long products and scrap and metallics. Your efforts will make a real difference in helping Fastmarkets to achieve its ambitious growth plans and grow the steel research practice.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and innovative environment, have a can-do attitude, advice and can juggle a wide variety of tasks and projects.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Develops, produces and updates house US and Americas-focused steel short-term forecast model and associated commentary and data.
  • Supplements forecast model with content creation on the steel product and raw materials markets, capacity development, regulatory policy development, supply, demand, trade and other trends that impact the industry.
  • Controls input to our products from internal and external contributors to guarantee timely and coherent updates for our customers.
  • Manages client and internal enquiries about the markets and accountable for fulfilment of requests for insight and data for presentations and interviews. Strives to be the go-to resource for steel analysis in Fastmarkets.
  • Analyzes technology innovations in the green steel (reduced carbon) space.
  • Identifies necessary data inputs and partners with Research Analyst(s) to procure, collect, clean, and validate data for use in our forecast models.
  • Determines the feasibility and commercial viability of new product forecasts and coverage and then develops the forecast models and analysis to go to market.
  • Showcases Fastmarkets and steel analysis on-stage at Fastmarkets and industry conferences.
  • Engages with key industry stakeholders and participants online and in-person.

Key interfaces

  • Working with product management on the development of market-driven product.
  • Sales, Marketing, and Events in order to promote content and products and support client queries.
  • Interacts with Editorial and pricing team to provide quotes and insights for news content.

Knowledge, experience and skills

  • In-depth knowledge of markets including HRC, plate, SBQ, scrap and DRI
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills
  • Confident with presenting at industry events, etc.
  • Capacity to speak on the record to the media about market developments
  • Able to foster and develop relationships in the relevant industry
  • Collaborative team player
  • In depth experience in commodity analysis, ideally in the relevant field of research
  • Excellent data management skills. Fundamental knowledge of relational databases, APIs and data automation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of statistical foundations, particularly with regards to time series data and forecasting.
