Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses - one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan.

FIeldston Future Leaders CampThe Fieldston Summer Camps havecreated valuable summer experiences for both campers and instructors! We are a six-week summer day camp for rising PreK through 8th-grade children. Both morning and afternoon sessions specifically cater to each camper’s interests. Fieldston Future Leaders Camp is a nurturing and safe environment filled with a fun and exciting way of learning. We strongly emphasize science, technology, engineering, math, and design-based programming that is experiential and project-based. All of our programs cater to leadership development, confidence building, and creativity because we recognize that each child has the potential to make an impact on the world.
Position SummaryOur instructors are responsible for creating a safe and positive environment for campers to learn and develop lifelong skills. The instructor will design curriculum, plan and implement instruction that contributes to the program's mission and goals. Our instructors will establish a warm and nurturing relationship with each child by creating an environment stimulating curiosity. They are responsible for planning, teaching, overseeing the curriculum, and supporting and coaching the assistant instructors. In addition, maintaining the physical and emotional safety of every camper. Our instructors are responsible for general camp supervision and evaluating assistant instructors and campers.
This is a full-time role from June 19, 2023, to August 5, 2023.
The hiring salary for this position is $5,500. When determining the salary for an offer, ECFS considers factors including, but not limited to: the scope and responsibilities of the position, internal peer equity, key skills required for the role, the candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as market and organizational considerations.
 Responsibilities
 Specific responsibilities of the Fieldston Future Leaders Instructor(s) will include:
  • Designing and managing curriculum;
  • Supporting youth development through camp activities;
  • Effectively developing a positive rapport with participants;
  • Maintaining safety and confidentiality;
  • Supervising counselors and assistants during program hours;
  • Ensuring camper safety and the development of positive relationships;
  • Motivating campers through effective communication;
  • Knowing and adhering to site-specific safety standards
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and notify the supervisor of any hazardous issues;
  • Participating in professional development, including pre-camp training;
  • Attending staff meetings as assigned;
  • Supporting and mentoring assistant instructors and counselors;
  • Performing other duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful incumbent will possess the following qualifications, skills, experience, and educational requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree; 
  • Experience teaching elementary and middle school-age children;
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Curriculum design;
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to inspire and motivate;
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications or the ability to obtain one;
  • Flexible team player, with the ability, and willingness to work with adolescents, staff, and families;
  • Ability to be a mentor and a resource to campers, staff, families and embrace/foster cultural inclusiveness;
  • Inspire through creativity;
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and have the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively;
  • Must be a highly motivated individual committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion;
  • Possess the ability to be innovative and collaborate with others.
