Job Title - Registered Nurse - Med - Surg

Job Location - Peoria IL
Job Type - 13 weeks contract
Shift - 12 hrs

POSITION SUMMARY:

1. General Job Duties, Types of procedures required:

Reporting to the Short Stay Unit and Discharge Hospitality Center Unit Patient Care Manager and according to department policies/nursing care stan¬dards, functions as a member of the Patient Care Team to provide professional nursing care services to patients admitted, transferred, and discharged from OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. In doing so, the Team RN will demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served (ages 16 through adult). Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care provided to assigned patients. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by assigned shift. Registered Professional Nurses at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Illinois are licensed professionals empowered to participate in an interdisciplinary approach to meet the expectations of those we serve.

3. Required skills and minimum years of experience

General medical Level of Care experience preferred. All RN's are competencied to general medical nursing.

2 years Med/surg experience

4. Required Licenses and Certs

RN IL license, BLS (American Heart)

5. Shift of Schedule requirements

No Call.

Every other weekend (Saturday / Sunday on Day Shift and either Friday / Saturday or Saturday / Sunday on night shift to follow unit patterns)

Every other Holiday (Days holidays are: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day. Nights holidays are: Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Memorial Day Eve, the 3rd of July Nights, and Labor day Eve)

6. Floating to other units/departments?

Yes, all nurses in department are Gen Med competencied and therefore may be asked to float to any Gen Med unit throughout hospital. Travelers Float First

7. Bed size/number of rooms in the unit:

SSU is curretnly a 13 Bed unit, we have been approved/ plan to expand to up to an additonal 10 beds in new expanded location.

8. Nurse to Patient Ratio

1:4-5; 25/7

9. Dress Code:

No childish scrub characters, as we are an adult unit.

10. Unit/Department Orientation Information:

Travelers will have 1st day Epic training and HealthStream work, then will receive 2 12-hr. shifts with unit preceptor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the unit. This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the princi¬ples of growth and devel¬opment as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.

2. Work requires a professional level of knowledge of nursing practice and theory at a level that gen-er¬ally can be acquired by completion and graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.

3. Current State license as a Registered Nurse required.

4. Work requires six to ten weeks unit-specific orientation and on-the-job training to learn department/unit policies, procedures and work routines; to develop proficiency in use of medical equipment and instru¬ments used on assigned unit; to learn nursing care and quality assurance standards; and gain an understanding of the types of patients cared for on unit, their needs, and effective nursing interventions.

5. Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others; to communicate effectively and concisely with other patient care providers; and to instruct patients, family members and/or significant others in self-care/home care procedures.

6. Work requires analytical ability necessary to assess patients' physical, psychological and social needs, develops individual¬ized patient care plans, and evaluate patients' responses to medical and nursing interventions.

Candidates having experience in Nephrology, urology, kidney, general medicine, Neurology, Neuro, Medical Surgical, Med-Surg, Med/Surg Travel RN, and Travel Registered Nurse are eligible to apply.
