Esse Health is currently seeking a full-time Release of Information Specialist to be based out of the central business office in Creve Coeur, MO. The Release of Information Specialist acts as a liason between the Medical Offices and patients, insurance representatives, health care institutions, attorneys, etc., regarding the release of protected health information (PHI) in accordance with Federal and State laws . The person will interact with patients, patient family members, clinical office personnel, and insurance representatives. This interaction may be via phone, email, or in person.

Summary:

• Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Responds to requests for patient information via fax, phone, or mail.
• Maintain confidentiality and security with all privileged information.
• Responds to requests for patient records, both internally and by external sources, retrieving them and transmitting them appropriately.
• May create digital images of paperwork to be stored in the electronic medical record.
• Responsible for safeguarding patient records and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
• Assist with additional work duties or responsibilities as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical guidelines include reliable transportation & the ability to travel into the office, as needed. The ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. Reliable internet connection. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Requires analytical ability to determine completeness of medical records and validity of requests for release of PHI as well as possess good interpersonal skills along with basic clerical skills.
• Must be detail-oriented and able to effectively communicate with physicians, office staff, and colleagues from various departments and levels in the organization.
• Must be computer proficient with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Effective time management and organization skills a must.
