ABOUT ESPERANZA ACADEMY
Esperanza means hope. Esperanza Academy Charter School (EACS) is located in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia and prides itself on serving the students in the community in which it is located. During the 2024-2025 school year, Esperanza Academy will serve grades: K-3, and 6-12. Esperanza Academy believes that education can be a vehicle for social and economic progress for marginalized communities. As a result, we are relentless in our pursuit to provide our students with the best educational option in the Philadelphia area.
Our proven track record of academic success with historically underserved students sets us apart. The Academy has 11th-grade test scores above the city of Philadelphia average and value-added math and reading proficiency growth is among the highest in Pennsylvania. Students graduate at a rate exceeding 90% and drop out at a rate of only 1%. For 8 out of 10 years, the Academy has been awarded a silver or bronze medal rating in the US News ranking of Best High Schools in the country.
By the fall of 2025, we will have fully expanded to a K-12 school serving over 2,400 students. This expansion will result in Esperanza Academy being the second-largest single charter school in the city of Philadelphia.
THE OPPORTUNITY
At Esperanza Academy Charter School, we aim to empower students through transformative learning experiences that pave the way for both academic success and life beyond the classroom. We believe that our teachers are key players in achieving that goal. For that reason, we seek out mission-minded, student-centered teachers who believe in the limitless potential of students in urban environments to achieve greatness.
Esperanza Academy Charter School is accepting applications for an English Language Development (ELD) Science Teacher opportunity in our middle school building for the 2024-2025 school year. Our ELD program at the middle school is a sheltered instruction model. As a result, our ELD Science teacher will focus on modifying grade-level Science content to ensure accessibility to this content area while facilitating their journey to excel in academic language acquisition. This focus extends to enhancing proficiency in the four essential domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking academic English.
